Fans of 2009′s enchanting 3-D stop-motion film Coraline have good reason to celebrate today, as Focus Features announced it is re-teaming with LAIKA, the company that made Coraline, for two more 3-D stop-motion films. The first, ParaNorman, is set to hit theaters Aug. 17, 2012, and will feature the voices of Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In), Casey Affleck, Tempestt Bledsoe, Jeff Garlin, John Goodman, Anna Kendrick, Leslie Mann, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bernard Hill, and Elaine Stritch. Dubbed a “comedy thriller,” the film will follow a young boy named Norman (Smit-McPhee) who can converse with the dead and must help his small town ward off a horde of, what else, zombies. Sam Fell (The Tale of Despereaux) and Chris Butler (storyboard supervisor on Coraline) will direct from Butler’s screenplay.
A second, to-be-named film is scheduled for release in 2014.
