Ricky Gervais to voice spy dog in next 'Spy Kids' film -- EXCLUSIVE

Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais is getting back on the big-screen: EW has learned exclusively that Gervais will voice the spy dog Argonaut in this summer’s Spy Kids: All The Time in the World. Jokes Gervais, “Not only am I lending my voice to Spy Kids, but they can keep it. I’m sick of it.” World is the fourth installment in the Spy Kids franchise and stars Jessica Alba, Jeremy Piven, and Joel McHale, and boasts appearances by original cast members Antonio Banderas, Danny Trejo, Alexa Vega, and Daryl Sabara. Alba plays a mother of two and retired spy who’s brought back into action when Piven’s ruthless villain, the Timekeeper, attempts to take over the world. Written and directed by Robert Rodriguez, Spy Kids: All the Time in the World will hit theaters in 3-D on Aug. 19.

I hope Ricky Gervais does more American mainstream movies from now on. He should have joined the A-list years ago.

What’s the point of calling it “Spy Kids” if the main character’s not even a kid? Or is Jessica Alba actually just an early bloomer?

As much potential as this movie has to be bad, that title is undoubtedly great.

I find it hilarious that Jessica Alba said in an interview she would never again be seen in a catsuit doing action scenes…and yet there she is doing exactly that. She should stick to doing what she does best: Looking hot and making a fool out of Bill O’Reilly.

The only person Jessica makes a fool of is herself when she tries to act. She would be best fit to just stand there wearing next to nothing all she has going for her are her looks.

      Hammertime!

        oh, oh, oh, oh…

Yet another movie where Alba stares vapidly into space. Sad to see that she never became a kick ass action star who can also do drama. She started out so great in Never Been Kissed and Dark Angel. I wouldn’t have pegged Jolie, Johansen and Peet to be the legit stars and Alba to be the next Shannon Elizabeth.

I’d like to see a movie where space stares vapidly into Jessica Alba.

Well I am all for anything that keeps her from making another Fantastic Four movie.

Sounds like a crappy movie for so many actors I like.

My concern is what type of message are we sending our children? Firstly, being a spy is not a realistic job prospect. Secondly, why can’t these movies adopt faith based solutions? I’m convinced that anything can be accomplished through prayer. Touched by an Angel or Highway to Heaven inspired Spy Kids is just what the heavenly doctor ordered.

    Can I get an Amen?

    • Lashonda

So no Spy Kids…what would make you happy Bubba? Priest Kids? Now that movie might have a rather unsavory aspect to it. Can I get an Amen?

      • Jacob

        Don’t feed the troll.

      • bubba

Amen! Although I’d prefer a non-denominational program. More flexibility and less doctrine… maybe God Kids or High on Christ? I think the kids would like it b/c of it’s subtle double meaning. I know the kids at my parish would love it. Write back!

Sorry Jessica, your fifteen minutes of fame are up.

Gervais is much better suited for voiceover work. His stature, weight and pointy teeth are not well suited for being a big screen movie star. He’s not easy to look at and yes I’m sure you’ll think I’m the bad guy here for calling out the facts but you do the math and try to ignore these were reasons he failed as a romantic leading man in the comatose Invention Of Lying flop from a few years ago. Gervais is much better suited for voiceover work and television…his two success…UK The Office and his HBO show (ok, that’s not really a huge success but it hasn’t flopped).

  • Seth

I’m willing to see this if Joel McHale and Ricky Gervais are in it.

  • ShannonW

Um, Joel? I love you but what are you doing? I am seriously split about seeing this. The first one came out when I was a kid, loved it, but felt they were running the franchise into the ground ever since. I don’t know, Joel seems to be a very smart dude, maybe he saw something spectacular in the script. I’ll see…when it comes on ABCFamily.

This could be cool. I wonder who the kids are this go-round if its a time-travel movie. Hmmmm! I won’t say it but if you’re thimking what I am then that’d be pretty funny though.
