Looks like the rapidly-approaching Doomsday (exhibit A and the more pressing exhibit B) is getting the romantic comedy treatment. Focus Features announced Monday it had acquired U.S. distribution rights to the upcoming comedy, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley co-star as two people looking for love amid the apocalypse in the not-so-distant future. Seeking will be directed by screenwriter Lorene Scafaria (Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist) from her own script; production is reportedly set to begin this month.

Some forget that Carell is pushing 50. Yet another ‘Babe and geezer’ Hollywood fantasy movie for straight me.
The title says “Seeking a Friend”, and the description says they’re looking for love. It doesn’t necessarily have to mean romantic love. They could just find loving friendship as they anticipate the end of the world.
And the article says it’s getting the romantic comedy treatment.
The movie is about Carell’s character searching for his high-school sweetheart. Knightley’s character plays his neighbor who tags along with him on his search.
It is so refreshing to see Keira Knightley in an American movie. I hope she does more of them from now on.
Carrell is one lucky dude.
