Alec Baldwin won't leave 'Rock of Ages'

After a brief swirl of rumors and alarm-raising headlines, Alec Baldwin is officially on board for Rock of Ages. Earlier this week, the 30 Rock star reportedly asked studio New Line to let him out of the film — a jukebox musical set to songs by artists like Journey and Pat Benatar — for health reasons. But now Baldwin is back, and director Adam Shankman (Hairspray) confirmed on Twitter that the actor was at a table read Thursday alongside co-stars Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, and Paul Giamatti. (Catherine Zeta-Jones, who will play the female lead, was unable to attend.) Baldwin is slated to play the owner of a Sunset Strip club in the musical, which tells a love story set in 1980s Hollywood.

I wish they would cast Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts in this. I’ve always wanted to see Tom Cruise do a movie with each of them.

Isn’t Julianna Hough in this too? Isn’t she in fact the female lead?

You’re correct. Catherine’s part wasn’t even in the show and she is too old to play the female lead.

I was so excited when it was announced the show was being made into a movie. However, due to the casting I have no desire to see it. Russell and Paul are good choices but the rest of the cast doesn’t make sense. Tom Cruise is too old to play Stacee Jax. The stage was excellent and a lot of fun.

      Stage “show” – oops

I agree with “Min”! We saw the show in NY with Constantine Maroulis and it was fabulous! The casting for the movie seems awkward! These actors are too old and I can’t see any chemistry for the fun this story should have!
