“Do not be fooled by their cuteness.” “Stop saying ‘Smurf’ for everything!” Are these two quotes from July 29′s 3-D The Smurfs, or reactions to the new trailer? Answer: The former, but, still, at least a third of this screenplay must be made of the word “Smurf,” based on the teaser embedded after the jump. Yet, the little blue guys with a terribly narrow vocabulary are undeniably cute: Watch as they escape the evil Gargamel (Hank Azaria) by transporting themselves into New York City and Neil Patrick Harris’ arms. Bonus draw: There’s a laughing cat. (Maybe that’s just an attraction for me.)

That was the strangest trailer…It was like everyone had taken some serious downers, especially the voice actors. Zero energy.
I cry for how terrible this is going to be, like Alvin and the Chipmunks and Marmaduke. Why must Hollywood desecrate the pop culture we all grew up loving with this garbage? It’s uncalled for!
They Should have kept Brainey Orginal voice. Kate Perry doesn’t even try to sound like smurfette, and the Scottish smurf is just annoying.
This looks SO bad. It’s sad that they couldn’t even keep the simple integrity of the original. Smurfs in NYC? Didn’t they realize that people loved them for their otherworldly qualities. Eh, oh well, in my childhood memory they shall remain.
