The wolf pack has something to howl about today: The Hangover Part II scored a massive $31.66 million yesterday, the best opening-day gross ever for a non-animated comedy, according to Box Office Mojo. It’s also the third best Thursday debut in history behind Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith ($50 million in 2005) and The Matrix Reloaded ($37.5 million in 2003). Meanwhile, Kung Fu Panda 2 bowed to just $5.8 million, though its core family audience will probably buy most of their tickets Saturday through Monday.

It will def make bank, but heard it’s not all that great.

    • LOL

      America loves crap.

      • To LOL

I imagine your life, waking up every afternoon (safe guess there)excited to visit EW’s site(as well as others) just so you can post, “America Loves Crap”. It’s sad and I’d almost feel sorry except that level of pathetic can easily be avoided.

      • To To LOL

Classic case of the pot calling the kettle black.

      • To to to

Hey to to, do you even know what that saying means? I read ew all the time and that there was my very first post because i got tired of continuously seeing this troll (probably you) pop up for no good reason on any and every article to say America loves crap. Now if I were to comment every time they did that then your saying would be appropriate as this is a one time statement born out of frustration, you fail. Something I’m sure you’re more familiar with that your own face

      • Adwina Lambert

pure pop trash from dreamworks!! tee-hee!

    • Karina

i saw it yesterday and loved it! i mean its not as good as the first one but its still worth it

      • LOL

        Karina loves crap.

      • Captain

The first one wasn’t nearly as good as people made it out to be so if the second one isn’t even as good as the first it must be really crap.

      • Karina

LOL doesnt know how to lol

  • Dumbledore Fluffernutter

Sorry, people who buy tickets for this, but the first one was not funny and from the reviews, I doubt this is any better.

    • Matt1

You’re not funny! And we’re supposed to care what somebody who posts as a fictional character says???

    • Wolfpack kicks Woodman’s ass

Go watch Woody Allen’s latest bore-fest then, you philistine; ooooooohhhhh I wonder if the protagonist will be a neurotic writer THIS time!

      • Captain

I’m sorry but the notion that anyone who doesn’t love The Hangover is a pompous art goon is so ignorant that you’re just making yourself look worse. I can’t stand art movies and generally don’t agree with critics and I still don’t like The Hangover. I LOVE mindless comedies…when they’re funny. The original Hangover wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t THAT funny either.

      • Wha’ever

Your comment is stupid. I LOVED the Hangover, and I’ve liked every Woody Allen’s movie I’ve seen. Thinking that you can’t love two movies because they’re aimed at different audiences just ake you look like a closed-minded idiot.

  • CountryClub

Sequels to comedies almost always stink. So I dont expect this to be anywhere near as funny as the first one. The people who saw it have given it an A- according to CinemaScore (this is audience rank, not critics), so hopefully I’ll get a few laughs out of it.

  • AN

Whatever, haters! This movie was AWESOME! So stupid and so funny! Will it win an Oscar? No. Will it make you laugh? YES!!!

    • sergio

The movie is still phone. As usual with sequels the first one was better. It’s still funny, but if they do a part 3 (which they most likely will) they need to have a new storyline.

      • Captain

How can they have a new storyline? The formula is all they have.

  • Scott

Whew! Man thanks for telling me the first one wasn’t good. I almost forgot I loved it and had an opinion.

    • Matt1

      HA!

  • Will

Hangover 2 was hilarious & just as good as the 1st. Critics will hate it, and don’t take your kids, but it’s hilarious. The whole theater clapped at the end, and it was packed. I’m sure this will make 200 million+.

    • Justin

That’s exactly what I needed to hear! I’ll be seeing it on Saturday.

  • Jimbo

It’ll make a lot of money, but this one just wasn’t nearly as funny as the first one, which was hilarious.

  • Tracy

Epic! Way better than the first one!

    • Justin

      YES!

    • 34% Rotten

      34% rotten tomatoes! It sucks!

  • Terrence

Wow…I can’t believe that a remake of The Hangover, just a year later, is actually roping people into buying tickets. Seriously, the same situation, very similar sight gags and jokes, but a different city.
Reeks of Sex and the City 2, another sequel to a crappy comedy that was still a big hit. And it’s getting reviews as dreadful as that other stinker.

    • Jules

      2-years later, actually.

    • DGH

They are making a movie called The Hangover 2 what do you expect it too be about????

  • Rob

I’ll listen to the griping on this when it equals the griping on the endlessly, formulaic romantic comedies of which there are about 10X as many. Ditto when we’ve been subjected to four of these like we have that crap-tastic Twilight nonsense. Until then I consider the griping by far outlandish. Women have dozens of atrocious rom-coms to flock to every year. Teenage girls have umpteenth Twilight movies to go see. So guys in their 20s and 30s finally have one crappy, juvenile movie they can go see. This is hardly the reason American movies are descending into crap.

    • m1

Really? The last time I checked, the Twilight movies actually have different plots with each film, unlike this Hangover “remake”, apparently.

      • DGH

So the whole Twlight saga isn’t about whether Edward and Bella will end up together.

      • Liz

m1: Please graduate from middle school before trying to offer an opinion on what you mistakenly believe to be the brilliantly varied plots of Twilight.

      • m1

I never said “brilliantly varied,” so I don’t know where you got that from. What I meant was that the Twilight movies actually continue the story instead of ripping off the original scene-to-scene.

      • John

Liz, you are a moron. The three Twilight films(which I hate, by the way) are crap, but each film is a continuation of events that were first established in a series of books. The Hangover 2 is simply the same premise in another city.

  • Mikey M

It looks stupid but the crowd raised on things like Two and a Half Men, Family guy, American Idol and Dancing with the Stars will love this type of entertainment. They can go in and talk and text and not pay much attention to the movie.
    Go see Bridesmaids instead.

    • Urs

      Agreed.

    • Wha’ever

Damn it with your stupid assumptions !! I hate Two and a half men, never watch reality TV and am eager to see Bridesmaids, but still liked the first Hangover movie and want to see the sequel. And moreover, saying that the Hangover movies are aimed at the same audience as American Idol or Dancing with the stars prove you probably never watch the movies.

  • Josh

I owe Pirates 4 an apology, because at least it felt as though they were trying.

Hangover 2 has to be one of the most cynical, laziest cashgrabs I’ve seen in a long time. Probably since Men in Black 2.

    • Wha’ever

What’s wrong with being cynical ?

      • Blech

Cynical in that the filmmakers/studio knew that audiences would pay to see whatever they threw on the screen, whether it was good or not.

  • Ingmar Lingus

This is just stupid. Guess, that’s why it’ll make a fortune, it’s just the kind of tripe that people eat up these days.

  • Rashy

Sloppy seconds anyone, with all the talent they had and this was the end product. Smells like a pizza fart in a litter box, it had its moments but a huge letdown. Bridesmaids was sooo much better. Shame it wont do half the business as this screaming turd.

    • Joel

It’s not as though Bridesmaids is bombing. It’s doing so well in fact that maybe in 2 years time you can come back on here and complain about the sequel.

  • Samantha

Save your money. It’s like the original, except unfunny and stupid. I hated every minute of it. So did half the audience at the showing last night.
