The first look at Tom Cruise as womanizing rocker Stacee Jaxx in Adam Shankman’s big-screen adaptation of the Tony-nominated Broadway musical Rock of Ages has hit the Web on Tom Cruise.com. The ’80s are in full effect with a backlit, shirtless Cruise sporting long hair for the character, who, in the stage show, sings Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead or Alive” and is a part of other numbers including “I Wanna Know What Love Is.” See the picture after the jump!
Back in April, Shankman spoke to EW about Cruise’s casting and commitment: “Here’s the thing about Tom Cruise: I knew in my heart he would never put himself in harm’s way about taking on a part if he didn’t think he could deliver. So it wasn’t until our first go around with his voice lesson that we sort of looked at each other and went, ‘This is gonna work!’ And we were basically dancing around the living room and high-fiving each other because he actually has a fantastic voice,” Shankman said. “His grandfather or his great-grandfather was an opera singer, so apparently he’s genetically predisposed for this sort of thing. He’s having the time of his life and he is so grateful in a strange way that I even thought of him for this, because this is so outside of what he does. He is going to create an incredibly indelible character, because I told him this needs to be so far out there that it’s startling.”

I met Tom Cruise once and there is no way he is even 5’7″…I’m 5’3″ and he wasn’t terribly taller than me. I was shocked but it was still freakin’ Tom Cruise. He was married to Nicole Kidman then, so it was before the crazy came out.

I believe those abs are his and not photoshopped. I saw a picture of him recently and he was shirtless and those abs are real.
liposuction does wonders.. you should see him shirtless in movie Knight and Day… clearly a botched lipo – he obviously had another one to fix that one.

@Rowsey: Maybe you haven’t seen the play. Stacee Jaxx is a washed-up lead singer with a huge ego who everyone hates — which is why Brand would be perfect for the role.
he had long hair back in late 80′s for some ‘fantasy’ movie, when married to first wife. She wanted him to cut it asap.
And for 80′s rock, singing ‘good’ isn’t necessary so anyone could have played the part.

I agree. Not able to watch any of his recent movies after seeing his constant rants against mental health therapy and medications (and anyone who doesn’t support his sci-fi “religion”). When he talks about scientology, he seems almost out of his mind. Can’t stomach him anymore. And BTW, those are definitely not his arm and ab muscles.

Anyone who’s seen Tripic Thunder knows that Tom Cruise can take on almost ANY character. I’m not a fan of his but the guy has talent out the ears.
