'Footloose' remake: Watch the trailer here!

Step one: Kick off your Sunday shoes. (Seriously. It’s Wednesday. They’re starting to smell.) Step 2: Watch the brand-new trailer for Paramount’s Footloose remake (below), starring Kenny Wormald (Center Stage: Turn It Up) as rug-cutting bad boy Ren, the role made famous by Kevin Bacon in the 1984 original. The basic story looks the same, with Ren falling for a preacher’s daughter (Dancing with the Stars‘ Julianne Hough) while tussling with her overbearing dad (Dennis Quaid) over their town’s anti-dancing law. And there’s even a new version of the famous, high-flying warehouse dance scene. But crunk dancing? Ren’s Kennedy accent? Both new, for sure. And it looks like Wormald is officially trying to out-floof Kevin Bacon’s legendary cowlick. Brave move, Ken. Check out the full trailer below!

    Ummmmmmmmm, no thank you.

    • Stacie

      Yuuuuuuppppppp!

      • pure trash

this movie looks like step up 4, absolute trash

      • Tom

        NOPE!

      • Tom

        No Kenny Loggins, no magic.

    • LMAO

Ohh yeah it’s confirmed, America loves Crap…

      • Tom

None of that original crap for me. I want that old crap I couldn’t stand the first time thank you very much.

    • bit

there is only one reason for teenagers to ever be in a movie, and that is to be hacked to pieces by the bad guy.

  • HD

That doesn’t look nearly as bad as one would think. But everyone knows Footloose was all about the soundtrack!

    • Darin

That’s what I was thinking. It looks better than I thought it would. Even so, a remake is still completely unnecessary.

    • Steph

Last evening I went to the frig bafoerot and stepped in something. Looking down I saw the entrails of my housecat’s leftovers. Maybe she heard us talking about the leftovers go in the frig! I had to peel it off my foot and clean up. Good kittie, though for getting those house mouse.

  • bud

    Why?

    • Kate

This is what I was just thinking. It looks like it may as well be a shot for shot (dialogue included) remake – with the exception of the lame psuedo crump bit. If you aren’t adding anything new, why even bother? Kevin Bacon has more charisma than this kid by miles.

      • crispy

Haha, it IS a shot-for-shot remake. But they have added something new… racial diversity.

      • mary

Oh really Kate, did you just crawl out from under a rock? obviously you have never seen Kenny Wormald in action. He is a fabulous dancer. Check him out!

  • Livia

hmm… kind of looks like a step up meets a walk to remember movie…. might not be as bad as I originally thought.

  • Heather

Why not just re-release the original? Why does Hollywood feel the need to remake everything?!?

    • LMAO

For the “new generation”… Please give us a break Hollywood. there are no original ideas anymore in Hollywood

      • Nyaa

I think the “new generation” needs to come up with there own ideas…

      • Jackson

Im a teen, and I also review movies, and I agree with you 100%. Even though I personally liked the last Step Up movie, I’m getting tired of looking at all these garbage remakes. For one thing, the first one wasn’t “amazing”. Yes, it was a good movie, but was it worth remaking. But, then again, this could be better. I highly doubt it, but Piranha 3D was a critical and fan favorite, and that shocked everyone. Will I see it? No. Do I think it will be a success? No. But, haven’t you noticed the original ideas suck? Look at the last few Oscar contenders: King’s Speech, Social Network, and True Grit. To sum it up… I agree with you in most aspects, but you have to put in consideration that these new ideas are not exactly money makers or movies that interest the general audience.

  • Micahel A

It looks like a remake in the most literal sense. Some of the scenes looked like they were lifted from the original. Why not adapt something to make it slightly different or better. I do admit the cast is at least significantly hotter than the originals.

    • ted

Even the dialogue is the frickin’ same! jeez.

      • Marie

And the outfits! White t-shirt, red tux, please! This did not need to be re-made and especially not with two leads who can’t act!

      • Tom

Come on, people. If they had come up with a substantial change, people would complain that they raped the original, if they keep it pretty much the same, people will say “What’s the point of an almost-shot-by-shot-remake”? That being said, the premise of the film alone is absolutely ridiculous, especially in 2011. A toen that bans dancing? Sorry, that’s way too far-fetched, even if it were in some small, backwoods town.

  • Melinda

No thank you. What’s wrong with the original? Hollywood can’t come up with any new ideas? Kevin Bacon IS Ren…this is ridiculous.

    • Natalie

I agree! Absolutely no need to re-make this…especially when it looks like an almost shot for shot remake. Footloose, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Breakfast Club (all of these have been talked about being re-made)…lay off our childhood favorites Hollywood!

      • Jane

OMG, if they remake “The Breakfast Club” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” it would be like a discredit to John Hughes. Leave the classics alone!!!

  • Demond

This is going to bomb big time.I can’t see anyone from my generation or older going to see this movie.I grew up in the 80s.The original has a special place in my heart. This just seems to be the exact same movie except they showed the preacher’s son killed in the automobile accident and a new cast.I already know the music for this movie is going to suck.Hollywood really needs to stop remaking movies from the 80s.

    • Kathy

Totally agree with you Desmond !! There are just some “classics” you don’t mess with and sorry but this is one of them- get new ideas and stop ripping off the 80′s movies Hollywood !!

    • Rob

I have news for you. 30-something year old men is not their target demographic…

  • ST

It looks pretty much like the original (no big surprise there). I think the thing i’ll be disappointed by the most is if they remake the song too (and they likely will).

    • dublin

Listen to the first 5 seconds… sounds like they did.

      • Mevlida

  • mlk

I couldn’t believe the original ever got made. This truly baffles me.

  • Mike

Wow… this looks pretty bad. Agree with everyone else that there is no need to remake it. I find it funny that the “dancing” in the new one has to be hip-hop crunk dancing.

What is next, remaking “Girls just want to have fun” with the same type of dancing? I mean, C’MON! completely unneccesary remake.

    • mary

Ive seen trailers that led me to believe a movie was great and it turned out after I saw it, it sucked. This also goes the other way. Go see it, read up on Kenny and then judge.

  • lettergirl

oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no. my 14 year old will like it, but NO ONE who grew up with the original will see this.

    • Joy McBride

I am 61 yrs old and I loved the original, but I can’t wait to see this new movie, the actors are much better to look at and it is set in 2011, It will todays generation. Just like the original was loved by the 1980′s generation. All you hater need to reserve judgement until you have at least seen the movie.

      • @Joy

You’re 6i years old? I call your bluff. There’s no way in hell a 61-year old would use “haters” without quotation marks and s sense of irony.

      • Jane

One of the reasons the original Footloose was so awesome was BECAUSE it took place in the 80s. The 80s music rocked!!!! The remake will not live up to the original. Guaranteed.

      • mary

I also loved the original. The open minded generation of today will love this remake. And I guarantee they will love Kenny. Music and Dance enthusiasts will love it too. All these critics are critiquing and they haven’t even seen it yet. WTF

  • What?!

This looks like crap…guess Hollywood keeps running out of ideas…Footloose is a classic and so is Kevin Bacon as Ren!

    • LMAO

      Right on…

  • LMAO

Kevin bacon shoud have been the girl’s dad…

    • Ugh

Kevin Bacon wouldn’t touch this with a 60-foot pole. It’s an insult to him that they’re even re-making it, and I’m sure he can smell the odor coming off of this one from a mile away. Their only acting star in this is Dennis Quaid…

      • Juke

It’s crazy to look back at the original and see all the cool people who were in it — Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer, John Lithgow, Dianne Weist, Sarah Jessica Parker.

      • mary

Oh, but you are so wrong! Keven was delighted to see Kenny playing his lead role. And Kenny did not have any stunt doubles like Kevin did, he does all the dancing.

      • Rahma

Chris Roberts June 20, 2010 Good GOD!I wonder how you make it thguroh the day without hurting yourself! HAI say keep pissing off perfect strangers. If you’re getting pissed off about that then they must need to get laid! Trying having a little fun!

  • An Average Sized Mustache

So we went from Bacon to Sizzlean?

    • Tammy

You guys are boobs!!!! Get a life!!! I LOVE the OLD!!! Would Love to see the NEW!!! BTW…for the tweens and the teens…one day, maybe, you will also not be so critical.
