EW has confirmed that Julia Ormond is in talks with Warner Bros. to play Superman’s mother in next year’s reboot Man of Steel. (Deadline first reported the news.) To be specific, Ormond would be playing Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s biological mother, possibly opposite Russell Crowe as Jor-El. (Diane Lane and Kevin Costner have already been cast as Superman’s iconically lovable foster parents, the Kents.) Ormond has a recurring role on this season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent; her last major film role was as Caroline in the bookend sequences of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

The new ‘Superman’ speaks! An exclusive interview with Henry Cavill

I love this actress!
I wondered whatever happened to her, I liked her in the Sabrina remake. I think this and the Kevin Costner casting are the only pieces of good news for this movie. The name Zack Snyder pretty much dooms the rest
Not Michael Shannon? Who is a fantastic actor in both Boardwalk Empire on HBO. A good actor in Revolutionary Road. And was fantastic in the screening i saw of Take Shelter at Sundance this year.
This comment is just stupid.
The actor from The Tudors are great addition to. Together with Amy Adams.
Believe in miracles I just wtieessnd one and the boy is now home after 9 month at Hopkins and a lot of prayers.I will make sure our church adds Ava to our prayer chain. The power of prayer is what you all need. Ava is in the best hands the doctors and our Lord he will hear your prayers keep the faith. God Bless you all
freaking LOVE her.
Recently, she was in Benjamin Button and Nurse Jackie.
You’re right. I totally forgot she was on Jackie as O’Hara’s journalist girlfriend.
I am just so excited about this movie that whenever I hear anything about casting I get insanely excited!!!! And if Russell Crowe could play his dad, that would be extremely amazing!!! Batman and Superman are going to dominate next summer!!! Move over Marvel!!!
I really hope they’re not doing another origin movie. Anyone going to go see this movie already knows the origin. Please don’t waste money and time showing us Krypton blowing up, and rocketed baby Kal-El surviving.
All of you anti-originers must shush. Besides the 1978 version, what other origin story was there? They could do 20 minutes of 2012-like effects on Krypton with Russel Crowe fighting to save baby Kal.
She was terrific in the HBO movie about Temple Gradin.
Dude. You had to bag on Christopher Reeves? I’m so kicking you in the shin next time I see you. Superman is ALWAYS off lmtiis dude.Reply by on August 12th, 2009 at Wednesday, August 12, 2009 @ 12:55 am@Redneck Mommy, actually, his name is Reeve, no s . Temple Grandin
Poor Julia Ormond never lived up to the Hollywood hype of Sabrina and Legends Of The Fall. However! She is a fine actress and everyone should see Smilla’s Sense Of Snow. Beautiful film and outstanding lead role for her.
They should get somebody younger for both Jor-el and Lara
this movie is acquiring quite an impressive cast of movie star veterans!
I’m pretty sure Ormond & Crowe wouldn’t like being referred to as ‘veterans’ that’s more the Betty White age group or if you’ve been in Hollywood all your life like Drew Barrymore for example.
I’m pretty sure she’d like us all to forget she was in I Know Who Killed Me!!!
I hope they put effort into this new Superpan movie .
I can’t stand Julia Ormond. Whatever character she plays always comes off as weak and annoying. Hopefully, Krypton blows up early in this version.

I was closed by her when she smiled at Tristen in the scene in “Legends of the Fall” where they meet for the first time. She has a rare quality of believable sincerity and warm, and she isn’t hard to look at either. She obviously would not still be getting parts if producers and directors did not feel she was a ligit actress. I just saw her in the2003 film “Resistance” that I had not seen. She was clearly the best performance. Didn’t care for the role she played in “The Curious Case of BB” but she was spectacular as Katherine the Great in that made for TV film. She’s got class.
