'Killer Elite' trailer: Jason Statham, Clive Owen, and Robert De Niro fight

The trailer for Killer Elite starts with a beaten and bloodied Jason Statham tied to a chair. Clive Owen, sporting a grody ’70s stache, is holding a gun on him. Statham somehow manages to wrestle Owen while still tied to the chair — he even executes a wild seated backflip before he jumps out of a window. Then the punchline: Based on a True Story. Well, sort of; Killer Elite is based on a novel about British government hit men that is supposedly based on actual events (much like my upcoming memoir: How I Founded Google and Conquered Mars). Still, with Statham, Owen, Robert De Niro, and Chuck‘s Yvonne Strahovski, Elite looks like it could be fun. Check out the trailer:

It’s sad that I doubt a movie’s quality because DeNiro is in it. How the mighty have fallen.

    I want to go there.

Who wants a mustache ride? Me.

I had no idea it was gonna even come out this year.

This looks bad ass. Statham and Owen doing what they do, Yvonne Strahovski looking sexy as always, and like Josh said, DeNiro FINALLY being back in a true hard knocks action role!

I’m a Clive Owen fan, but it seems like Daniel Craig has been drinking his milkshake for a few years now since he got the 007 gig. I guess Craig’s got a better agent. Still, this looks like a return to badass form for Owen. Statham’s always the same, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

EEEEEEEEE, new Jason Statham movie! Plus DeNiro and Clive Owen! I’m with @Josh, it’s good to see DeNiro in a part like this. Looks really good.

They had me at ‘Jason Statham’, then threw in ‘Clive Owen’ for good measure. I am soooooo there!

Oh sweet Yvonne, who security must have warned about my presence in the autograph line for ‘Chuck’ at last year’s Comic Con. I’m not sure I buy the whole ‘She had to go to a charity even right after the panel’ excuse

Is it me, or does anyone else realize this will be the second film Stratham and Owen have done since 2006′s Pink Panther? (OK, they had cameos and they didn’t actually work together in that one, but you get the point). Whatever – I’m already there for this Killer Elite!

At this point, it’s like DeNiro is holding up his middle finger and saying “Yeah, I’m a paycheck wh0re who will appear in anything someone pays me a lot of money to be in and I don’t give a f–k!” It was rather depressing to see him sleepwalk through “Limitless” like a senile old man who wandered onto the set. And now this. You would think that someone as wealthy as DeNiro — who not only made untold millions as an actor but also owns a large chunk of Manhattan — would only work when the project was special. Why do filthy-rich actors like him turn themselves into laughable, legacy-shattering prostitutes when they get older? Why not become MORE selective than not selective at all?
