Will Smith is courting Men in Black III co-star Emma Thompson to write the screenplay for a remake of Annie that would star his daughter, Willow. A spokesperson for Thompson confirmed a New York Magazine report that talks were underway, though a role in front of the cameras does not appear to be in the cards for the actress. The Oscar-winning writer (Sense and Sensibility) and writer/star of the Nanny McPhee films plays Agent Oh in next summer’s Men in Black sequel.

I thought Karate Kid would be bad but it was OK, saw it on Netflix. Will Smith knows how to market movies, and he knows how to keep them cheap.
It will probably cost 40 million to make and make 75 million in the theaters world wide, so will make money by the time it goes to DVD. People like me will see it on Amazon instant or Netflix.
Can they substitute “Tomorrow” with “I Whip My Hair”? And knowing how much the Smiths pimp out their kids, Daddy Warbucks will be played by Jayden Smith in a flesh-tone skullcap.

Is it so impossible to make an original movie for his kids? Jaden in The Karate Kid and now Willow in Annie. I guess their next movie can be a remake of The Sound of Music.

I wouldn’t mind a remake of this movie BUT I wouldn’t watch the Smith family version. While I understand a parents’ desire to help out their children in an endeavor, they should be more aware that help like this one could backfire on them. Public backlash can be quite cruel and the children will be the most likely targets.
I’m more interested in the friendship between Will Smith and Emma Thompson. With this, her roll in MIB III, and her weird, but great cameo in “I Am Legend”, This is her third collaboration with Smith. What an unlikely pair considering he’s a huge action star and she’s an acclaimed, beloved English acting legend in her own right.
I want to live in a parallel universe where the Smith family doesn’t live. Please go away. Ugh.

No. No. Just…no. We don’t need another remake of any movie, let alone this one (even though I prefer the Broadway version, and in turn the Disney one that came out in ’99). Emma Thompson you’re breaking my heart by doing this.
Lauren the kids I have no problem with its just the fact there are many, many great young girls out there with talent that they could’ve chose to play Annie. I just find it an extreme cop-out like someone said why can’t they come up with something original instead of remaking another film first of all that does not need to be remade for one thing and second had it should, it should cast an unknown for the role. I liked the Karate Kid film and I think Willow Smith is cute and entertaining for her age I just think its entirely unnecessary to use her for the role. Let me guess Annie is going to come from the Bronx and dropped off at an orphanage where she adapts her r&b style to the other children and gets adopted by a rich successful white man that makes all her dreams come true by scoring her a record deal. If so — cheesy for one thing and I will pass on it.

For all the so called backlash some of the people on this post speak of Karate Kid made a lot of money and people liked it and the same will happen here. I’m guessing it will be produced for about 35mill and make 95mill world wide with good money coming from her sound track that Jay-z will produce. If they cast it right, make a really good movie and Will Smith really hits the road pushing it, it will make 185mill world wide but Willow will have to step her game up.
