In an opening weekend PopWatch poll, 31 percent of readers said Joe (Joel Courtney) was their favorite kid in Super 8 (Ryan Lee’s Cary came in second with 26 percent of the vote, and Elle Fanning’s Alice was third with 23 percent.) Prepare to like him even more after watching the deleted scene below. Joe, Cary, and Charles head into the 7-Eleven, where Joe tries to figure out why Alice has agreed to help them with their movie. I love that he asks what book she was reading when Charles spoke to her — it’s something a geek of any age would want to know about the person they’re crushing on. I also appreciate that this clip shows the hard work that went into stocking those 1979 shelves.

‘Super 8′: The EW Summer Movie Guide

Best movie of the year so far.
Really? I saw it last week, enjoyed it, but at the same time found it quite forgettable (and riddled with plot holes)…
Though, for a summer flick, definitely one of the best.
I thought it was the best movie of the year, the acting was terrific, esp the kid Joe and his father (Kyle Chandler). And I thought the last scene was heartbreaking – a future classic
The acting was awesome—loved the 70s feel of this movie. The ending was a bit of a letdown, but the buildup was great.
X-Men: First Class. The guy who plays Magneto, Michael Fassbender (I think), is amazing.
but still a good movie
ATTACK THE BLOCK!
Yes! Absolutely loved it. I know lots of people didn’t really like the end, but that might have been the moment that really blew me away. This would really deserve to be a future classic – and I’m not one of those people who throws the word out all the time. BTW, Charles’s movie WAS great.
Agreed, awesome movie!
I’m not that big on JJ but yeah, it was a great movie. the blu-ray’s gonna be a staple in my living room for years to come.
I liked it, but I think it’s kind of overrated.
I can’t comment, because I don’t really exist!
SNAP!!!
Wow, and here I thought the bonus scene was going to be a better ending.
Then the clip would have been called a alternate ending not a bonus scene. To bad you didn’t know that or you could have saved yourself the trouble.
I enjoyed the movie until the last 15 minutes. I mean, really? Such a terrible ending.
Just out of curiosity, what exactly was so bad about the ending? I personally loved it.
WOW! That was the best bonus clip of the summer! Of the decade of summers!!! Watch this bonus clip if you want to be AMAZED!!!!
Not my favorite movie of the year so far (that’s currently X-Men: First Class) but it was a very enjoyable movie, and was a great tribute to the 70′s and the films of that era. It again shows that J.J. Abrams is one of the best TV and film makers around today, and we’ve got a potential big star in Fanning.
I thought the movie was really terrific — not a classic for all time, but really well-made, well-acted summer fun. As much as I liked Joe, I think Alice (well, Elle Fanning) was the “discovery” of the movie. She’s genuinely talented.
This was a terrific film. “Super 8″ reminded me how films used to be when I was growing up with “The Bad News Bears,” “The Goonies,” “Stand By Me,” “Close Encounters Of The Third Kind,” and E.T. The Extra Terrestrial.” “Super 8″ had such a respect for the characters, the setting, the films it was tributing and yes, the ending was just perfect. I was a 12 year old kid all over again with the locket and the now classic line (in my book at least) “I’m just doing my best to save your life.”
I love all the superhero movies. I get sucked into all the event pictures but honestly even if “Thor” (another great movie) is not a sequel of any kind it is still just another superhero movie.
“Super 8″ was an original storyline with fresh new characters and surprises, depth and emotion in every scene. With each passing scene for the first 2/3 of the movie there was a question asked about the charcters or the mystery of the train and finally in the last 1/3 all the answers were revealed.
Perfect screenwriting. This is the only film I will go back to the theatres to see again.
I loved the kids in this movie! Best cast of kids in years. It is refreshing to see kids being kids. Joe is a super cutie. Am I the only one who think Charles reminds me of a young Jason Segal?
The kids in this cast were AMAZING!!! Joel Courtney and Elle Fanning especially. I hope their parents take care of them and get them safely through child stardom so we get to see what else they can do.
Don’t worry Anne. Joel comes from a terrific family that keeps him well grounded.
I agree Anne. Outstanding acting performances from these children and the film is a gem.
I loved super 8, it’s my favorite movie, but most of you are right about the ending it was my least favorite part of the movie all of the rest was awesomeness !!!!
