Juno vet Allison Janney has been cast as Chris Colfer’s mother in Struck by Lightning, the teen comedy written by Colfer that will mark the Glee star’s feature acting debut. Last April, Colfer told EW, “It’s about all the kids in high school who are overachieving in their own right and underappreciated for it just like I was. I think it’s very sarcastic and very real. I hope it goes to show that there still lots and lots of smart kids out in the world. It’s about smart kids and not about stupid kids who wanna get laid and that’s their biggest goal in life. We’ve been having tons and tons of meetings with actors and people who wanna be part of it. It’s so crazy because I’ve had meetings with actors [who] I literally wrote the role for, that want to be in it and want to be part of it. It’s a trip!”
Colfer wrote Janney’s role with her in mind. She plays Sheryl Phillips, who is searching for a way to reconnect with her son as he prepares to head off to college.

Love Allison Janney! This is excellent.
I hope Chris has parts for Zac Efron and Chord Overstreet!
You must be joking.
Well at least Chord Overstreet. Why not ? The good looking over achiever.
Nice star power for Colfer’s feature acting and screenwriting debut! I’m psyched about this one.
Cool. I’ve loved Allison Janney since The West Wing and Colfer is my favorite Glee kid. Should be a good movie.
How awesome! I’m actually pretty excited for this movie, and not just because I love Chris Colfer. The plot sounds like a good dark comedy, and I love Allison Janney.
I hope this is a hit- Allison Janney is a seriously under appreciated actress. Mr. Sunshine was so far beneath her! Glad to see she’s moved on to bigger and better things, and with someone from my other favorite show, too! The West Wing and GLEE together at last!
Helpful info. Fortunate me I found your website accidentally, and I am surprised why this twist of fate didn’t came about in advance! I bookmarked it.
