Relativity acquires Gerard Butler's 'Machine Gun Preacher'

Machine Gun Preacher, Gerard Butler’s upcoming foray into serious drama, has been acquired by Relativity Media. Michelle Monaghan, Kathy Baker, and Michael Shannon also star in the film, based on the true story of former drug-dealing criminal Sam Childers (Butler). After finding faith, Childers travels to Sudan and is shocked by the brutality he sees. He becomes a crusader for hundreds of refugee children and brings peace to his own life in the process.

Marc Forster (Finding Neverland, Monster’s Ball) directed and Jason Keller (Relativity’s untitled Snow White project starring Julia Roberts as the evil Queen) wrote the project. Relativity will theatrically market and distribute the film throughout North America in advance of its limited-release opening on Sept. 23.

Could be decent. The title is awful.

The title takes from the true story of Sam Childers. He, a former prisoner, found religion, went to Sudan and became a sort of savior of the thousands child soldiers. Then back home he started up a church. So I couldn’t think of a more fitting title for it.

It is a very moving story and having worked on the film I am very glad to see that it is receiving distribution.

It’s great to see an actor whose career is always switching directions and therefore allows him to evolve and further craft his trade. Hopefull the rumours of his being nominated for an Oscar are true as Gerard is in my opinion highly underrated for his obvious talent and skill. Keep up the great work, Gerard! Can’t wait to see what you do next!

This movie is going to be HUGE. Winning combination of story, script, and finally, a director who is unafraid to push Mr. Butler’s formidable acting skills to their limit. Good for you, Gerry.

Gerry I have heard is a Tour de Force in this movie and if Marc Forster has done his usual great work then it will make the Oscars. Sam Childers is a great man and his story is fantastic. I wish you all the best. Well done Gerry you deserve this for all the great work you have done. Looking forward to Coriolanus too

Gerard should just stay away from awful chick flicks and his promising career will really blossom. That means NO MORE FILMS With Heigl or Aniston. Please! Also, he really needs to work on his American accent before he accepts another US role.
