For a few months now, Kristen Wiig has been talking about a film project she’s been hoping to get off the ground called Imogene, in which she would play a New York playwright forced to live with her mother after faking a suicide attempt meant to get the attention of her ex-boyfriend. Now, two months after the massive success of Bridesmaids, Wiig is getting her wish. Maven Pictures (the new company headed by The Kids Are All Right producer Celine Rattray and actress/filmmaker Trudie Styler) and Anonymous Content announced today that the film will begin shooting in New York next month (Winter’s Bone‘s Alix Madigan will also produce). American Splendor collaborators Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, who have long been attached to Imogene, will direct the film.
Audiences have clearly shown that Wiig is a bankable movie star, particularly in ensemble comedies. Now she’ll have the chance to truly headline a film for the first time. If the moment ever was right to make that leap, it’s now.

Move over, Tina Fey! ‘Bridesmaids’ catapults Kristen Wiig from ‘SNL’ star to Hollywood triple threat

So happy for her!!
“Now she’ll have the chance to truly headline a film for the first time.”
Umm, I get that Bridesmaids had a nice ensemble cast, but Wiig was still truly the lead character in the movie. Let’s not belittle her accomplishment in that film and act like she didn’t headline it.
You’re right!!
I completely agree, SHE MADE Bridesmaids the best comedy of the year, hands down… possibly more.
Does this mean she will be leaving SNL? (Fingers crossed…)
Ah, here come all the SNL Wiig haters … right on time …
I hope she leaves too
I hope so too and it’s not because I dislike Kristen on SNL. I just think she should move on because she’s a great actor and could do so much more. SNL is a sinking ship these days anyways..
It means more Wiig time on SNL, actually! They need their big star front and center before her contract runs out. I can’t wait to see the faces of those Wiig haters!

After what she wrote and did in Bridesmaids, I will definitely go to see this!!
Is she the next Tina Fey?
No. Kristen Wiig is the next Kristen Wiig. Tina Fey is the next Tina Fey. They’re both great and there’s room for both of them to make us laugh.
Agreed. Kristen is great at doing characters while Tina is better at playing Tina. They both have their niche.
She seems to be shaping up to be the next Tina Fey except for the fact that people actually liked Fey on SNL.LOL
I watch SNL just to watch Kristen, she’s the funniest person (not only woman) I can think of
