Cue the Michael Bay haters!

In what’s becoming an increasingly common achievement in Hollywood, Transformers: Dark of the Moon crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office on Tuesday, the film’s 35th day of release. In doing so, Dark of the Moon became the first film in the Transformers franchise to earn $1 billion (not surprisingly, it’s also the first one released in 3-D…), as well as Paramount’s first-ever $1 billion box office hit.

The robot-alien blockbuster, which has earned $338.8 million domestically and $663 million overseas, is the third film to surpass $1 billion this summer, following Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

So how long until Paramount officially announces Transformers 4?

    I can’t believe Rihanna’s new hair cut!

Wait… I don’t understand? It was such an abomination, and yet it’s earned $1 billion??? Must be fudged accounting… because obviously that much B.O. means people are seeing it, and there’s no way people are seeing it because it’s so bad, right????

  • Cygnus

I think Transformers 4 should have them doing a song and burlesque dance, finally pulling out their mechanical, vibrating “things”, and yelling Gladiator-style, “ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?!?!”

  • harry

    YES!!

  • boom

Congrats, Micheal Bay is a God. I expect a new Transformers within 3 years

  • Alex

I’m proud to say I’ve never given this franchise a penny.

    • Migilicuty

Me too…well i went to see RoF, but walked out after 15 mins and got my money back

  • Parthi

Great for everybody involved and people who loved it…. I Loved it too

    • Spiderman

I can’t agree with you more.
As a loyal Transformers fan, it’s delightful to know there are so many others just like me.

Wait, wasn’t Titanic a Paramount Film? If so, shouldn’t Transformers 3 be the 2nd Paramount film to cross $1 billion?

    • MAK

Titanic is a Paramount film…..domestically. Fox owns the rights overseas.

  • Matt

Yet another case of the majority of the public ignoring half star reviews for one film.

See it’s summer, and during the summer most people want to see an action film more than they want to pay complete attention to a story, there are other times during the year for that. Nobody pays attention to critics because if you watch the commercial for a movie you know is terrible (like cars 2) the critics somehow still say its a great movie sooooo…

  • Aidan

I gave up o the franchise after #2!
Also, I vet the next one will be called Trans4mers

Michael Bay might be a lousy director more suited to doing music videos and commercials then feature films; but a billion dollar movie is still a billion dollar movie.

  • winston

Come on, Tranny 3 was far better than either of the others, and was more in line with Armageddon, i.e. big dumb fun, rather than embarrassing middle-school humor filled big dumb “fun”. Though it still needed about 20 minutes of “humor” cut.

  • Laura W

Its so sad that this joined the billion dollar club cause all of the others are of better quality than this one (wink, wink, nudge, nudge The Dark Knight, LOTR:The return of the King, Toy Story 3 etc well maybe except Avatar!!)

    • srederson

Laura W, are you serious? The Avatar was an excellent movie. The special effects alone were out of this world good. If it were my choice, The Dark Knight would be off the list.

  • srederson

I know Megan Fox is kicking herself for being such a brat. She could have rode the tide and had close to $100 million by Transformers 5
