The Film Society Lincoln Center announced the centerpiece for its 49th New York Film Festival. My Week with Marilyn, starring Michelle Williams, will screen its world premiere on Oct. 9. Directed by Simon Curtis (David Copperfield), the film follows the 1956 diaries of British filmmaker Colin Clark (The Pillars of the Earth‘s Eddie Redmayne). That summer, Clark took Marilyn Monroe (Williams) away from Hollywood and showed her the British lifestyle. Richard Peña, Film Society program director and selection committee chair said, “After seeing Marilyn Monroe so often portrayed in films as a caricature, it is a pleasure to see this complex personality and unique on-screen presence portrayed so well by such a talented actress.” The Society previously announced that Roman Polanski’s Carnage (based on the Tony-winning play God of Carnage) will open the festival, which runs from Sept. 30 to Oct. 16.

I’m looking forward to this movie, especially Kenneth Branagh and Julia Ormond as the Oliviers.

Richard Pena just insulted a legend. Marilyn Monroe
deserves a better actress to play her at the box
office. Michelle Williams is not a credible actress and just because she was nominated for
Brokeback Mountain does not mean she is talented.
Heath Ledger loaned her his talent and that made her appear credible. She does not resemble Marilyn
Monroe in the least. I am disgusted that such an
entitled little opportunist would be the choice to play
a legend. This movie will fail. I don’t care how many
roles Michelle will portray in her pathetic career but
please what jerk would believe she is suitable to
    be Marilyn Monroe.

Pathetic career? Have you even seen any of Michelle’s films other than Brokeback Mountain? And even if you’ve only seen BBM, Michelle was outstanding than that. In my opinion, she was the strongest female character in that movie. And, just so you know, Michelle was nominated for two Oscars (if you haven’t seen Blue Valentine then you should!). And Heath Ledger (as talented as he was) did not help Michelle with her career. Have you even seen any of her performances before BBM, or even after? You’re just another ignorant prick who insults people they don’t even know. You could only wish you had as much talent as she has.

      Dear Pathetic Choice
Many people say mean things about her casting as MM. That’s okay because…
Michelle Williams will be the Best Actress of 2012. She’ll have the last laugh…..

Julia Roberts did not have to take her clothes off
and try really hard to be sexy by performing sex acts. Blue Valentine was very boring and that movie required sex scenes to garner any attention at all. That’s what you call a worthy nomination?
Name another actress that trapped an actor so she could could ride his fame.
You can’t because they made it on their own.
Michelle trapped Heath Ledger to make herself a permanent part of his life because she was desperate to get a life of her own.
Would anyone pay attention to Michelle if
    she didn’t get pregnant?

There’s goes another hater….Julia Roberts is no actress. Go see all Michelle’s movies and Julia’s movies and compared who got the most talent.

Don’t be stupid, Williams doesn’t need to LOOK like Marilyn, she needs to ACT like the real person Monroe was [not Monroe the actress]. if we go to see a movie only to say “hey, she looks like Marilyn” we are missing the real work of the actor which is to portrait the essence of the character she is representing. THAT is the real talent and I think that Michelle Williams is doing a great job in reflecting that.
