The Toronto Film Festival is the unofficial launch of Academy Awards season, but one of this year’s most Oscar-friendly films is taking a pass. Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar, his biopic of the longtime FBI bureaucrat starring Leonardo DiCaprio, will not screen in Toronto or at the New York Film Festival this September, a spokesperson for Warner Bros. tells EW, confirming a Toronto.com report.
J. Edgar is scheduled for a limited release on Nov. 9 before going wide two days later.

I think that’s a good thing. It has enough hype and build up to be a success without those festivals. Plus Leonardo DiCaprio is a fantastic actor, and he definitely carries films well.
This method worked with The Fighter, so if J. Edgar is good enough, it could work again.
I think they’re more worried about getting mixed reviews at these festivals with all the attention paid to them.
Is this thing going to Venice? Seems weird that they wouldn’t want it appearing at ANY festival, especially if they’re gonna push for nominations for their actors (Firth and Portman last year were able to ride festival buzz to wins last year).
Leo’s finally going to get his Oscar
I’m so glad this movie is having its wide release just two days after it is released in select cities. It’s so frustrating when all the great movies are only released in New York and LA in December but don’t roll out to the rest of the country until mid-to-late January.
Can’t wait!
Festivals really overhype great films anyways…..this one will do fine with no festivals……definitely a road to the Oscars for this film…:)
Hoping Leo gets an Oscar bid, and a win! Love him.
I wonder who decides this is it Warner brothers or the director who chooses not to attend a festival??
AWWWW NOOO!!! I really thought he would come into town I luv LEO!!
