One more crime committed by western civilization.

    • jpratm

      ditto

      • obviously an idiot

Crime? The fu*k? The first was an amazing original; solid characters, strong story, unpredictable twists, and brilliant direction. Though Zookeeper will undoubtedly take Best Picture, Best Actor, and most likely Best Screenplay, The Smurfs is a certain shoe-in for both Best Director and Best Visual Effects. With $135 million in the bag already Oscar Season has begun.

Are you kidding me? It’s a kids movie –most adults find kids movies/shows stupid and tedious, but that doesn’t make it a bad movie. It’s just a kids movie. When I was a kid, Beethoven was a huge hit, and I loved it. Looking back, it’s a pretty stupid movie and how many sequels are there? What about the Care Bear movies from the 80s? Or Rainbow Brite? stupid and stupid. So what? It’s for KIDS. There was no violence, no drugs, no crude language, no sex or nudity. It had a simple story line that a child could follow and my 4 year old loved it, and he will probably be thrilled when the sequel comes out.

Really? I guess that 29% rating on Rotten Tomatoes couldn’t help parents steer their children into a better movie? This sequel is your fault, America.

    • Stacey

Kids will see what they want. A cute small Smurfs win out. I saw it. I am a adult. It is a stupid story, but the smurfs were very cute. Prime kids movie. They don’t care for plot. It’s not a Oscar movie. It’s a summer fluff movie.

29% is impressive. It was at 0% and then 18%. So it’s movie moving up in the world of rotten reviews LOL. I take it for what is it. Fluff! Cute smurts are a bonus. Clumsy was sooooo adorable! And I loved Smurfette who was very sassy!

      • whatevs

Um no, kids will not see what they want. They will see what their parents want. Or that’s how it was supposed to be at one point.

    • LOL

      America loves crap.

    • john

But since it was made for kids and kids loved it, isnt that the point

      • Shannon

exactly! I took my kids and they were laughing so hard they were doubled over. That is what matters to me.

      • Regina George

Every single kid in the theater laughed loudly many times.

    • jpratm

your comment implies parents even care what their children watch. because well they don’t.

  • Cait’saroughdraft

    Noooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • jb

    Hooray for Smurfs!

  • DRG

No wonder the rest of the world hates us.

    • john

the smurfs originated in europe moron

      • DRG

I was referring to the fact that this movie was made by Hollywood and embraced by the US public. I will, however, refrain from the gratuitous insulting that you engage in so readily.

      • Jesss

I live in Belgium, and they love the movie here–yes, the one that was made in Hollywood. It is shown in schools, (along with The Adventures of Tin Tin), as part of Belgium’s history and folklore. They are quite proud of it.

      • Jesss

and let me clarify that when I say “history”, I am referring to the authors, the timeline in which the stories were written, and the impact the folklore has had on the country. No, I don’t actually think they are real people or creatures.

  • Demond

Really?Hollywood has hit rock bottom.Thank God for Comic Book Movies,Chris Nolan, and a few other talented people who still give us quality movies.I grew up watching The Smurfs and knew this movie was going to suck.

    • Ilia

LOL!!!! Thanks for comic book movies? The only decent comic book films to come out in the last 5 years have been The Dark Knight and X-Men:First Class, so let’s not get ahead of ourselves…LOL

      • DRG

Comic book movies are a part of the problem. A BIG part of it.

    • Norm

If the movie is just like the series and you hate it because you hated the movie, sorry, but you can’t blame Hollywood. Blame Peyo, who created the show in Europe (Belgium or Switzerland, I can’t remember which). Get it straight.. If the adaptation is fairly faithful, that’s to Hollywood’s credit.

  • Doctor Who Fan

that is the best Smurfing news I heard in a while!

  • The Mad Gasser

Smurfs 2?!! There is no god!!!!!

  • Gargamel

Oh Smurfette, this new makes me want to rub my smurf between your smurfs until I smurf in your face.

  • Tim

  • Grouchy Smurf

    I hate crap!

  • Aidan

    Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo├▓├┤┼Źooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • Andrew

Sony Pictures needs the money. They’ve been struggling lately. The only big film they have coming out next year is the “Spider-Man” reboot. Other than “The Smurfs” the only successful film they had this year was “Just Go With It.”

  • John

I don’t know what to say. I just had an anurysm from the sheer stupidity of it all. Sony, for all civilization, just stop.

  • bluestar88

Look, this movie was simply made for children and perhaps people that grew up watching the cartoon like myself. I personally haven’t seen the movie but just because it not what you don’t wanna see doesn’t make it CRAP. It did amazing in the box office because KIDS begged there parents to take them to see those cute looking blue things lol, not the other way around. Is do the same if I had kids. I rather take them to see the Smurfs rather than all the other raunchy movies that are out. Children deserve the share of entertainment too. It’s silly to hate on a movie that most likely wasn’t ment for you’re particular age group anyway. By the way I was a huge fan of the Smurfs when I was young and I still wouldn’t force a kid to see this…I don’t think I could sit through it lol (response to whatev comments) but why would you denied a child from seeing a fluff movie. Or would you rather take them to go see Predator or something lol.
