We’ve got your online exclusive first look at two new posters — and, technically, trailers — for Sundance hit Martha Marcy May Marlene. (In theaters Oct. 21.) The drama stars Elizabeth Olsen, younger sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley, as Martha (a.k.a. Marcy May, a.k.a. Marlene), a damaged woman who struggles to reassimilate with her family after fleeing a cult. Winter’s Bone Oscar nominee John Hawkes co-stars as the cult leader. The posters feature QR codes, which you scan with your smartphone for access to exclusive trailers. These previews will not be available any other way online — which is something new to online marketing — and are only viewable by scanning the QR codes. The posters will be randomly posted on the streets of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Los Angeles as well. Scannable standees will also hit movie theaters nationwide.

o-kaay?
I’ve been collecting original movie posters since I was twelve and THESE are superb. It’s excellent marketing, yet at the same time… it almost matches the mood of the film. Great design work, I’m ordering a pair pronto.
@Brilliant I’m sorry this is kinda off topic, but I’ve been meaning to start collecting movie posters. What are some that you started with? Hope you reply to this!
Hi Josh! I am not the original poster that you replied to but I collect posters as well and figured I’d give my two cents. When I started collecting I found it less important what I was buying and more who I was getting to know while doing it. If you live in a larger city try to incorporate yourself into the movie culture there. Just talking to the people that are immersed in movie culture will give you an idea of what is valuable and what will one day be valuable to have! In the early days of a collection contacts are more important than content!
When I saw a trailer for this I was like, “Whaaaa?” In a good way though, it just looks super intense and possibly unsettling. I hope my small town gets it!
Yeah, my Android won’t play it…. *heavy sigh*
Love the one with John Hawkes.
This seems like a really bad idea for advertising. Isn’t the idea of advertising to spread the information as widely as possible to garner the largest possible audience? If you don’t have a phone that will scan this, aren’t they limiting their possible market penetration?
Yeah I hate htis idea. I am interested in this movie, want to watch a trailer, but don’t have a cell phone. This has just built some bad will…
Be sure to your ovaltine
The death of another artistic form of communication. Both of them are horrid.
Er’ no.
