New 'Beetlejuice' movie in the works at Warner Bros.

Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetleju–!

Not so fast. Everyone’s favorite “Ghost with the Most” isn’t going to appear again that easily, but fans of Tim Burton’s 1988 weird-fest will be curious to learn that a new movie is being hatched, though the details are sketchy at this point. Warner Bros. announced to Deadline a production deal with KatzSmith — the company made up of producer/writers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith — to make Beetlejuice 2, or Beetlejuice Begins, or whatever form the new movie takes will be crafted by them.

Reps for the pair say it’s too early to characterize the form the movie might take, or whether the original cast Michael Keaton, Geena Davis, and Alec Baldwin will be involved, but it will not be a remake.

Given Grahame-Smith’s strong relationship with Burton, it’s likely the filmmaker will be involved in Beetlejuice‘s resurrection.

Grahame-Smith and Katzenberg, son of DreamWorks Animation chief Jeffrey, have previously collaborated on the MTV series The Hard Times of RJ Berger, and Grahame-Smith brings the gothic comedy side to the partnership, having written the novels Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

His latest book, We Three Kings, is a dark take on the Christmas story of the traveling wise men.

Burton is producing the film version of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and hired Grahame-Smith to work on the script for his Johnny Depp vampire saga Dark Shadows, currently filming in London. So this is for serious, people.

As Beetlejuice himself said: “It’s showtime.”

Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Ricky Gervais, Simon Pegg, Eddie Izzard, Jack Black or Steve Coogan as Beetlejuice.

    • Hawk

None of those… Sam Rockwell is the only viable replacement

      • Kris

I could see Sam Rockwell as Beetlejuice. Good call.

      • doug

Good going Hollywood. Way to stay original. Pah

    • Kris

Those are all HORRIBLE casting choices!

      • Zack

For real. There is no other Beetlejuice than MICHAEL KEATON. Someone convince Hollywood to lay off the classics!! There is absolutely no need for this movie to be remade, it’s perfect in its own right.

      • doug

I’m not paying my money to sit through another terrible Will Ferrell movie. Hells no!

    • Jesse

      None of those. NONE.

  • BobDecker

    This pleases me

    • doug

Because unlike half of the movies made today, it is a very crafty original story and terrific concept but now they are just going to CGI the heck out of it to the point where i’m going to wonder if I am playing a video game or not

  • spiek78

No! Michael Keaton is the only Beetlejuice! He still looks good for 60 and he wears makeup anway…

My thoughts exactly. Can I get a Day-O

If I was Michael Keaton and they asked me to remake this, I would tell them on the evening news public to go ___ themselves for even thinking of remaking this classic film.

No!! No, no, no!! Stop with the prequels and sequels and those god forsaken remakes!! Make your own damn movie…

    • Hawk

      This is an ignorant opinion…

      • doug

you can go ___ yourself too Hawk

  • Luz

Love this movie – hope they don’t screw up the prequel or whatever it is.

  • RachMeist

I agree, Michael Keaton or no movie. Hasn’t he said in years past that he would be up to making another one? I don’t know if this opinion has changed over the years.

    • e4ia

He still could totally pull if off too. He made a guest appearance on 30 Rock this past season and he has aged very well and his comic timing is still spot-on.

    • Sue1

      Absolutely. No Keaton, no Beetlejuice.

  • Rosemary

Yes, yes, and please yes! Beetlejuice is the shiznit! I hope they focus more on the Neitherworld, maybe even go into the origins of BJ, because we still don’t know how that cat came to be. That would be awesome. Or maybe even Lydia’s life after the original. Winona is due!

    • andrea

Exactly! That is how I hope it will be made. If Michael Keaton doesn’t do it then no movie. I did read that Tim Burton said that if keaton doesnt do it then it wont happen. I would love to see all of the orig. cast.

  • Hawk

Sam Rockwell would be the ideal Beetlejuice if Mike Keaton doesn’t reprise his roll!

    • doug

are you like 2 years old or something lol

  • Oh

  • CG

Nobody can replace Michael Keaton. He was Beetlejuice

  • kw

Johnny Depp as a vampire, love it cann’t wait.

    • Johnny Depp is Hot!

JD can bite my neck anytime!

  • EH

Gotta be Micheal Keaton or don’t do it

  • Marka

Goodness! Is it against the law in Hollywood to come up with a new idea?

    • President B.O.

  • Jesse

There is no Beetlejuice without Tim Burton. If he’s not involved, this movie doesn’t exist to me.
