The 2012 dramedy A Thousand Words, about a man (Eddie Murphy) who discovers that he has only 1,000 words left to speak before he dies, has been pushed back from Jan. 13 to March 23, according to a Paramount rep. Although the studio wouldn’t comment on the reason behind the date change, it’s likely an attempt to capitalize on the buzz Murphy will earn from hosting the Oscars on Feb. 26.

The movie, which costars Allison Janney and Kerry Washington, is helmed by Brian Robbins, who directed Murphy in Meet Dave and (the Oscar-nominated!) Norbit.

Can’t wait for the hosting gig but this movie sounds like another Pluto Nash. He and Brian Robbins need to stop making movies together.

I disagree. This could actually be a pretty good premise. Imagine if you only had 1200 more words you could speak, for the rest of your life. Would you hoard them? Would you use them in small bursts? How do you know how many you have left.

        Still sounds pretty stupid.

The premise is stupid and impractical. Here’s a way to solve the 1000 word speaking limit: Carry a notebook with you.

Interesting premise but Brian Robbins is an awful director.

  • Slugworth

Could it be that’s because it stinks?

And the stellar Murphy canon grows even larger! They should leave the movie on the release schedule as-is, that way when Eddie hosts the Academy Awards, he can just keep an Oscar for himself. Richly deserved, indeed.

hope you’ll say “twinky fairy” tee-hee!!

Good move by Paramount but shamefully will hurt Murphy cause after the good buzz he gets from the Oscars it will be ruined by this movie.

I wish Eddie Murphy would do movies for adults again like he used to and ceases doing children’s films. It would be sad and disappointing if he doesn’t.

Everyone is ready to give up on him. He has alienated his fanbase for years and has made many lousy children’s movies and rarely does films for adults anymore.

Many talented actor / comedians started with an edge that appealed to adults … their movies and their personas were bit dangerous, interesting (and also hilarious), i.e., Richard Pryor, Robin Williams, Jim Carrey … it’s not just Eddie … Some would add Will Ferrell to that list, though I don’t. I’m sure there are others. Anyway, not sure why it happens … probably something to do with money!

I wish he’d team up with the gang from BHCop [Judge Reinhold, Bronson P. etc] and catch up while catching crooks again.

Hasn’t this been sitting on the shelf for two-three (or more) years?
    P-U.

Trust me – Eddie Murphy will not get good buzz from the Oscars. It will be a disaster. He’ll try too hard to be the funniest host ever and it will backfire on him. I won’t be surprised if he leaves half-way through the show.
