Joseph Gordon-Levitt becomes even hipper in 'Premium Rush' trailer

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has created quite a persona for himself as a jaded, funny, and fashionable young actor. He plays characters that are lost but still hopeful, foolish but ultimately sensible. He wears super-trendy slim-cut suits, plays in an indie rock band, and flirts with Zooey Deschanel while listening to The Smiths. Basically, he’s the Alternative Spring Break-attending, socially-conscious college man’s idol.

So, naturally, he’s starring in Premium Rush, a thriller about fixed-gear bicycles. Post-grad Portland-bound hipsters, rejoice! This is your Fast Five!

The film follows Gordon-Levitt, a bicycle messenger man in New York City, who’s given a particularly dangerous assignment to deliver an envelope that some very powerful men want to get their hands on. Naturally, he tries to get away from them by biking off as many ledges, under as many low-hanging bridges, and through as much debris as possible.  Check out the chase-tastic trailer below.

What do you think of the trailer for Premium Rush? Will you pedal over to your local theater to check it out?

They were filming this last summer in my neighborhood. Looks pretty cool.

    • Hmmmmmmmm

The premise looks similar to the 1980s movie “Quicksilver” starring Kevin Bacon. I love JGL, but I cannot stand most hippsters

      • yeaaahhhhhh

I saw this trailer last night in the theatre and at the first line we looking at eachother and said “effing hipsters”.

I also love JGL, buttttt hipsters are really annoying

      • NedPepper

I don’t know. Most hipsters have an elitist attitude. JGL comes across as a nice guy. Well, at least on Twitter. I always thought he was gay, not a hipster. But the line is so blurred these day… ; )

      • Rachel

I saw a trailer for this in my theater while watching Drive last night!

I always thought he was more of an indie kid than a hipster. Indie kids like all of the same things as hipsters (foreign films, skinny jeans, indie music, fixed gear bikes, etc.) but the difference is that, unlike hipsters, they don’t think it makes them better than everyone else.

Also, this movie looks fantastic, and, yeah, insanely hipster.

Let’s not go nuts, EW. The film looks like schlock.

  • Johnny

    Michael Shannon!!

  • elena

Any movie that JGL is in, I’m there. He’s one of those actors that I find completely fascinating, like Robert Downey Jr.

  • Karen

As long as Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in, I am to. He has yet to star in a movie that is not incredible!

    • matt

      he was in G.I. Joe

      • LOL

Let’s also not forget Halloween: H20

      • DTO

I watched HESHER last night, and while I liked the idea of a headbanging protagonist who was profound in his profanity and thought JGL was thoroughly committed to the role, I thought it was a waste of time, indie movie crap, and I’m a guy who likes indie movies, metal, and JGL. The movie sucked.

      • DTO

UNCERTAINTY was also a waste of his considerable talents and viewers’ time.

      • Rachel

I agree about Uncertainty being a complete waste.

    • Robb

“He has yet to star in a movie that is not incredible!”

Uncertainty, KILLSHOT (……), Hesher, and yes, 500 Days of Summer all say hi. Let’s not even get into dubious supporting roles in questionable flicks. Havoc? Jesus christ.

  • darkprince

    Columbia represent!

  • Allie

Premise looks interesting. Plus I like JGL so I’ll check it out

  • Victoria

This looks kind of stupid, but I trust JGL’s judgement. Will probably watch this.

  • Melody

    It’s Joseph Gordon-Levitt, I’m there.

    • Stormy

      Ditto.

    • Carrie

      Yup.

    • Meghan

      It’s like you’re me.

    • Rachel

      I’m in!

  • Meg

I probably wouldn’t go see this move. On the other hand, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I probably will go see this movie.

  • film4future

    I’m in!

  • chocolateislove

I would watch JGL reading a phone book.

    • Rachel

I’d watch JGL watch paint dry.

    • Kevin

I’d watch him take a shower

    • Mocha

I’d watch JGL take a shower while watching paint dry and also reading a phone book. He is a man of many talents.

  • snsetblaze

I love JGL – but I’m probably going to skip this one. But, I’m just about to watch Hesher.

    • DTO

      DON’T DO IT!

      • Rachel

        Why not?

      • Manu

Thanks for your comment Jacob. On re-examining the chord I have to agree with your point. My iainitl comment was based on a lesson I had by video link with a jazz player in California who described the chord to me in the terms I outlined. I had not re-examined his explanation until now. What I would say is this: music is anything you make of it. Any group of chords may sound OK to one but not another. It is OK by me as long as it sounds good may we agree on that?

  • 1humbleopinion

Didn’t they make this movie 25 years ago with Kevin Bacon…called “Quicksilver”?

  • Keith

Saw the preview tonight before seeing Drive (which I LOVED–see it!!). I’ll definitely see it. Along with Gosling and Fassbender, JGL is one of my favorite young actors. It looks fresh and exciting. What is with that unfortunate title though? That doesn’t exactly attract interest. Blech.

    • Robb

Let’s be honest – Fassbender is at least 40 and dishonest about his age at the behest of his representation, as is so common in Hollywood. I mean, look at him. 33? Don’t think so.
