Bernardo Bertolucci told the story of The Last Emperor in 1987, but now Chinese filmmakers are celebrating the 1911 revolution that ended the corrupt Qing Dynasty and ushered China into the modern age from their own perspective. In 1911, Jackie Chan stars as a soldier who reluctantly takes up arms against the royal family, and Winston Chou (Ang Lee’s The Wedding Banquet) plays Chinese nationalist hero Sun Yat-sen. The trailer feels like a Chinese version of Pearl Harbor, what with all the explosions and blatant flag-waving. Take a look.
The war epic is one of the biggest productions ever attempted by the Chinese film industry, but its appeal to American audiences remains unclear. I’ll commit to seeing it when it comes out on Oct. 7, but only if the trailer for the elusive Red Dawn remake is part of its coming attractions.

I hope Jackie Chan will be in ‘The Expendables 2′.
I plan on seeing it (if it shows around here, which I doubt). That part of Chinese history is one of the most interesting periods.

Umm Cixi was not the last emperor. Jeez At least don’t use mis leading Titles. She was the Last RULING emperor but her nephew was the last emperor.
