Darth Vader might have said “Noooooo,” but Star Wars fans around the world were saying “Yeeeesss.” The 9-disc Star Wars: The Complete Saga collection set a record for the high-def Blu-ray format, earning $84 million worldwide. (Over half a million units were sold in the United States, although it’s unclear at this time how many of those units were purchased resentfully.) It’s an indication that consumer interest in the franchise shows no sign of slowing down. In a press release, Kayleen Walters, senior director of marketing for Lucasfilm, said, “Our fan’s enthusiasm to celebrate Star Wars continues to amaze us.” It’s certainly good news for the upcoming 3-D rerelease of the series, which kicks off in February with Star Wars — Episode I; The Phantom Menace, a film which everyone can agree can’t possibly be made worse by 3-D. Star Trek is better than Star Wars. Star Wars is derivative of Star Trek and while Trek is about relationships and stories that involved humanity and philosophical questions, Star Wars is about special effects. J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek is proof of Trek’s superiority over Star Wars, because not only does Star Trek deal with more human principles but it now has more special effects than Star Wars, so Star Wars has nothing to stand on.
I’ve never been able to decide who gets more upset when someone messes with their religion; Muslims, Christians or Star Wars fans.
