Kevin Costner has dropped out of Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming spaghetti Western-cum-period-slavery-picture Django Unchained, EW has confirmed. His role as Jonathan Kent (Clark Kent’s human father) in Man of Steel, and his upcoming History miniseries The Hatfields and McCoys, meant Costner’s schedule became too crowded. (Deadline first reported the story.)
Costner had been cast as Ace Woody, a ruthless trainer of male slaves pitted against each other gladiator-style in a ranch owned by the main villain, Calvin Candie, to be played by Leonardo DiCaprio. Jamie Foxx will play the title character, a former slave whose wife is Calvin’s captive. Christoph Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson round out the cast.
No word yet on who will replace Costner.
UPDATE: Kurt Russell is in talks to take on the role.

america loves crap.
Which why they’ll probably hate this.
*is
What did Kevin get tired of Quentins coked out behavior!?!
WTF? Between this and The Help I’m speechless. Well at least I have Lucas’ Tuskegee Airmen movie to look forward to… What the hell is Jamie # thinking? Maybe he can play Uncle Remus next.
Who cares. A good movie is a good movie. Jamie Foxx is a respected actor as is Viola Davis and Samuel L. Jackson.
Are we not allowed to have movies about slavery or race anymore?
What an Idiot. Could of had a career resurface like QT gave John Travolta.
Agree ddd. He did the same with Pam Grier shame she decided to make crap like Ghosts Of Mars after Jackie Brown.
Agreed! I just would have loved to see Costner in something…well good. Unlike recently
That’s what I thought as well. I’m sure Man of Steel will have people going, “oh yeah, remember him?”
But it wont be the thing people remember about the movie. Where as with QT, he could really show some of his acting chops that he showed in the early 90s. I think he would fit right in a QT movie. Oh well, somebody else’s opportunity now.
My guess is that he and Tarantino didn’t get along once they met. Same thing happened to Warren Beatty on Kill Bill.
My money’s on either Kurt Russell or Bruce Willis to step in for a return trip to TarantinoWorld.
fast five will be better than this. tarantino is no justin lin.
rofl, young people.
Hey Kevin, remember when you had a career 20 years ago? Nope? Well most people don’t either!
This could potentially be QT’s first stinker. The premise sounds horrible, but I am sad to see Kevin out of the picture. I was looking forward to seeing him act with Leo. Oh, well. Hopefully “Superman” is good.
Drive puts Fast 5 to shame. But than again you can’t compare a instant neo noir classic to a popcorn orgy. LoL
Drive is crap.
As a critic for EW put it, Fast Five is a “pitch perfect” film. There is no comparison between an actor’s actor like Vin Diesel and a ham and egger like Ryan Reynolds, or whatever his name is.
Yes because EW is the measuring stick for every other critic……idiot
Travolta are you listening??!!! Against type and could be great. Or Bruce Willis
I wish Kevin Costner would do more movies. We see too little of him now.
This is the best news I’ve had all day. A horrible actor departs a great director’s movie: perfect!
This news is about 2 weeks old.
