The trailer for the upcoming flick One for the Money has exactly what you’d expect from a Katherine Heigl action-adventure rom-com: The actress playing a sad, single girl who gets sage advice to either find a job or a husband. This time around, though, she’s brunette, and playing Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum, a down on-her-luck New Jersey divorcée who recently lost her job at the Macy’s lingerie department and seems to spend most of her time with her older relatives, including her grandmother played by Debbie Reynolds. Deciding to choose work over love, Stephanie winds up as a recovery agent in bail bonds where she learns to walk the walk (shooting a gun!) and talk the talk, er, sorry, tawk the tawk. (“You’re going down Morelli!”) Of course, things begin to veer into familiar whacky rom-com territory (hello The Bounty Hunter!) when Stephanie, who lives off a diet of TastyKakes and cheese puffs but still looks like Katherine Heigl, is assigned to take down her ex, the aforementioned Morelli (Jason O’Mara). Cue a Pink song (hey, at least it wasn’t this one) and some banter between Heigl and the man she love/hates (“Good to see you, cupcake!” “You’re an animal!”) and you’ve got the trailer for the big-screen adaptation of Evanovich’s best-selling novel. Ugh… I actually read a few of those novels and they are well written, for what they are. This just looks too cliche.
don’t read that lady and won’t watch this movie. katherine heigel is the female david caruso. she needs to go away for ten years then come back to some new medical show.

I’ve read all of the Stephanie Plum novels. Love them. NEVER pictured Stephanie as anything like Katherine Heigl. Can’t believe she got the role.

She is clearly wearing a wig-which makes me think she wasn’t fully committed to the role. Its one of my pet peeves! They pay actresses enough to just dye the hair!

I always pictured Stephanie Plumb as Sandra Bullock, but after seeing the trailer I think Katherine Heigl looks good in it. Ranger should be Dwayne Johnson and I don’t know what’s going on with Morelli, that guy is not how I pictured Morelli.

Katherine Heigl is voluptuous, gorgeous, sexy and beautiful. She’s a very talented actress. She is incredible and she is amazing. It’s an exceptional performance, just wonderful.

She got cast based on T & A, that’s all. There are New Jersey accents, and then there New Jersey accents. Katherine Heigl can not hold a candle.
Why didn’t they go with an authentic actress with the accent in place like Drea De Matteo?

Drea’s not good looking enough but I agree Heigl not a good choice. Plenty of other good looking actresses that could have done a great job, maybe even an unknown but the execs are too afraid to cast one.
No way in heck would I watch her as Plum. This was supposed to be Sandra Bullock’s movie but she wasn’t available. Awful, awful, awful to the infinity casting choice (and YES that is how I really feel). Not to mention it was filmed more than a year ago and has sat on the shelf.

I’m sick of people saying this was Sandra Bullock’s movie – she’s far too old for this part now, beside it was supposed to originally go to Reese Witherspoon – now that is a definite NOT for Stephanie Plum. Katherine Heigl has great comedic timing and I can totally see her as a the bumbling Stephanie Plum. I love Janet Evanovich and have ready every single one of her books – I only hope they make this movie into a sequel – there is so much material to work with with Janet Evanovich’s books.
I completely agree. Heigl is funny, pretty, and hot enough to be Stephanie Plum. Sandra Bullock would have been perfect around the time she did Speed, but that was a long time ago.
Also, I love the books, read them all, and can’t see how I could possibly allow the actors to get in the way of material. Sure, I have pictures of the characters in my head, but that’s not going to keep me from seeing the movie.
On the other hand, the fact that this movie got moved from the summer to January is a bad sign.
actually, up until about two years ago, when heigl signed on, this movie had been attached to reese witherspoon in development hell. with that said, leave heigl alone–i’m always amazed by the amount of hate she gets for being critical about some of the projects she’s participated in. i don’t want to be the guy that screamed “double standard,” but if she were a dude, she would not be getting this level of intense vitriol. i mean, hello: harrison ford and shia lebouf hate on the last indiana jones and they’re practically heroes for doing the exact same thing heigl did with knocked up and greys. the big difference is that men usually can’t be stymied into cut and dry roles like “bitch” and “diva.”

I’ve been a fan of the Stephanie Plum novels since the first. They’re fun, funny fluff. I always envisioned Sandra Bullock as Stephanie, but it took so long to get around to making a Plum movie that Sandra is no longer quite young enough to play her. I was totally dismayed when Heigl was (mis)cast, and this trailer confirms my fears about her. And I like Debbie Reynolds, but her playing Grandma Mazur (whose shenanigans are always a highlight of the books) is just awful. She looks too young, too good. Grandma should be tiny, skinny, wizened, NOT preserved by cosmetic surgery and looking much younger. The Ranger actor (from Rescue Me) looks the part, but the trailer indicates he’s not being played as the very mysterious, still, self-contained enigma that is the character. Looks like just another mad-cap, rom-com, which usually falls flat. Too bad.
Couldn’t agree more about Debbie Reynolds – who I normally love, but she is so not Grandma Mazur – I could have seen the old lady from Desperate Housewives before her.
To me, as I read all the books, Grandma Mazur is Betty White!!!
I always pictured Grandma Mazur as Cloris Leachman. Ranger is all wrong. He looks about as mysterious as a brick. I wanted Óscar Jaenada to get the part. He is hot, right accent and he’s hot.

i completely agree on debbie reynolds. like her; did not see her as this character. i like cloris leach man but really always saw the actress who played sophia on the Golden Girls (i know similar characters but both always didn’t really care about how others reacted to what they wanted to do). i always saw benjamin bratt as morelli…although the guy in the movie is certainly good looking). the ranger in the trailer is not ranger. i’m not exactly sure who would be a great ranger.
If Katherine H can at least give the attitude of stephanie, then i’m willing to give her a pass.
frankly, all i want out of this movie is to make me laugh out loud. i always had such a hard time reading the books in public because i would always end up laughing loudly at something. so i’m willing to give it a look and hope that it is at least a funny version of the book.
Nicole you are right on the money. It’s a shame that this series by Janet Evanovich will be played out by actors who are not like the characters at all. It’s a shame that this film, will probably flop and I feel for Janet as well. She works so hard and tries to preserve the characters in every one of this series. I almost wish she didn’t sell the rights to this book at all. We will see in January 2012 how it will do and if it will be a hit or miss.

( Sophia) type of person would have been perfect. I see someone like Laura San Giacomo (Pretty Woman) as Stephanie Queen Latiefa as Lula and definitely The Rock as Ranger! I don’t have a Morelli character in mind, but I don’t like the choice! I’m hoping for the best, but am afraid it isn’t going to make it! The characters are just too far off.

I’ve waited with great anticipation for these wonderful books to be made into a movie. Now all I have to say is this will probably go down as the worst cast movie in history (Ok that’s a little dramatic) Katherine Heigal looks to old and she’s not attractive. This is a travesty!
I will have to read this book again… Isn’t morelli a cop? What did he skip out on? I am confused to say the least. Also, I wish they had cast someone else. I think Heigl is not the right fit.
Yeah, Morelli is a cop but he was framed for murder and went FTA after he made bail. The first book has a more serious tone than the rest of the series. I’m not sure about Katherine Heigl but I’ll reserve judgement until after I see. I’m just so glad they finally made a movie that I don’t think anything woulld stop me from seeing it. My family and I have made it a point to go see this movie because so many of us enjoy the books.
The end of the book is pretty brutal if I remember correctly (or maybe that was the second one.) While there was a lot of humor…there is some pretty wicked scenes in the very early books.

Looks okay. books are cheesy fun, so trailer seems accurate, remember a lot of scenes from the book even. Don’t think Heigel is so miscast as maybe Jason OMarra and guys from Rescue me, OMarra not Italian looking and other guy is too small. Like both actors though so who knows. Pictures Gandmother as scrawny older thing too, maybe like Cloris leechman
Cloris Leechman would have been okay. I’m definitely not sold on Jason O’Marra, but I’ll reserve judgement. The movies are never as good as the books anyways, so you just have to give up on whatever you thought the character would look like in your head…
Couldn’t agree more. The books are always so much better then the movies. I always have to remind myself that when I watch movie that I have read the book to. Still think it will be better then Twilight series. Definantly saw Betty White as Grandma Mazure. I think Katherine Hiegl will be fine. But will have to wait and see.
