A second 'New Year's Eve' trailer arrives: Everything old is new again

Earlier this summer, the first trailer for New Year’s Eve, Garry Marshall’s latest romantic comedy featuring a gaggle of stars celebrating a terrible holiday, featured Josh Duhamel spouting convenient, blanket statements about life (“Some people swear there’s no beauty left in the world, no magic”), intertwining plot lines you could, more or less, figure out immediately (Lea Michele and Ashton Kutcher’s characters will fall in love by the time the ball drops), and that ubiquitous Pink song.

Now there’s a second trailer that features Josh Duhamel making convenient, blanket statements about life (“A resolution can become a revelation”), and obvious story lines (I’m taking Mandi Bierly’s prediction that “Seth Meyers and Jessica Biel’s characters will compete with another couple to have the first baby born in New York in the New Year — and lose. But he loves her anyway” to the bank). But… wait…no Pink song?!

So some things are a little different in the new preview, including more insight about Sarah Jessica Parker’s character (she’s the frazzled mother of a rebellious, flashing Abigail Breslin), why Katherine Heigl hates Jon Bon Jovi so much (though Sofia Vergara clearly doesn’t), and that everyone involved will have some sort of life-altering New Year’s Eve. Watch the full clip, which spares its other Oscar winners Halle Berry and Robert De Niro from screen time, below.

Wow. This looks like one of those movies that EVERYONE will go see but no one actually should because it’s pure dreck. Dreck with a lot of famous people in it but this couldn’t be anymore of a paint-by-numbers script/performances/etc.

If anyone ever tells they’re excited to see something like this ruh…run fast and far away from them because then they’ll start telling your how they think NCIS is a great show or how funny Two and Half Men is.

According to IMDB and Wikipedia, Carla Gugino, Sienna Miller, Sara Paxton, Greg Kinnear, Cam Gigandet, Shaquille O’Neal, Meg Ryan, John Stamos, Julie Andrews, Frankie Muniz, John Lithgow and Ice Cube are all in this film as well but have not been shown in the trailers or the photos so far.

I don’t care what anyone says; I enjoyed Valentine’s Day.

Uh that was not meant to be a reply to you, @Saunders. I just can’t navigate EW’s comment form, apparently. BUT I am excited about Sienna Miller and Cam Gigandet.

From the cast alone, this looks like it will make a billion dollars!

I happen to enjoy feel-good movies, and I like many of the stars in this film. I’ll go see it & enjoy it.

  • Hermione

I want it to be good. But I know it won’t be. Valentine’s Day was a hot mess.

  • despina

ok, I know this and valentine’s day are pure crap, but come on, this will be fun to watch on demand when you want to just watch a silly movie on a night in…is it just me that thinks that? oh, it is just me? ok, then…

    Was that Lisa Simpson?

  • Stormy

This film is a real problem for me because I really love some of it’s cast and really hate some other cast members. Love Jon Bon, hate Heigl etc. I don’t think I’ll pay to see it because the ones I can’t stand are bound to ruin it.

Garry Marshall blows and should be put out of our misery…

    • GOODmovieLVR

Maybe you should!!!!!!!!! Since obviously you don’t enjoy the world or it’s people.

  • Louise Walsh

Whats the song in the second trailer called that is before Give me everything!!

  • GOODmovieLVR

Why is it that people will FLOCK to movies that claim “The Last 15 minutes will mess you up for life!” and then rave about how AWESOME it was but they insist on bashing any Feel Good movie that comes out. HEY!!! NEWS FLASH!! IDIOTS!!! It is a FREE country! If you don’t wanna see it…DON’T! But don’t ruin it for those of us who enjoy a good plot and an actual story line as opposed to corpses or ghouls everywhere!

Great article. I cant wait to hear more about your research tool. If it is as good as your other products, then you will have another winner. Your article pretty much summed up what I have been seeing too. Great to see some hard data.
