Rooney Mara is threatening to become the belle of violent hard-R cinema.

The striking star of David Fincher’s upcoming The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is in talks to join Spike Lee’s remake of Oldboy, according to a source close to the production. Twitch Film first reported the news that Mara, who made an enormous impression in just a few scenes as Mark Zuckerberg’s ex-girlfriend in The Social Network, was considering a leading role in Oldboy.

The 2003 South Korean revenge film, about a man seeking vengeance after 15 years of mysterious confinement, shocked audiences with its gruesome depictions of violence. Mara would play the chef who connects with the newly-free man and helps him seek justice.

    Spike Lee remaking Oldboy??? wow

  • Clarissa

Really looking to clench that title of queen of unnecessary remakes…

    • aron

      …directed by master filmmakers.

Fincher’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is far from being an unnecessary remake. It is an adaptation of a book, and that book happens to have been adapted once before into a very mediocre film. To me, this is a necessary film.

@Clarissa was thinking the exact same thing

it’s going to be tough making a better movie than the original Oldboy.
On the other hand, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo could only be an improvement seeing as the original movie isn’t very good.

Not just remaking the movie put also the plot. That discovery at the end. WOW. I know that Hollywood can glorify grutesque violence, but if they stick with the script, man.

NO. BAD. DO NOT REMAKE OLDBOY….i’m serious, cant we just pay that korean guy to make a new American movie if american writers/directors cant come up with their own? Also I SAW THE DEVIL is amazing.

He is making an American movie. It’s called Stoker

yo they should put Idris Elba as the villain. That would be really good :-)

Elba would be interesting. He is by far the most exciting actor at the moment for me. Christian Bale could be very ‘American Psycho’ in the villain role. The villain in the original played his character very convincingly.

    What the hell is eying?

      eying–present participle of eye
Verb: Look at or watch closely or with interest……..

How many remakes can she do? First it was a nightmare in elm street then dragon tatoo and now this.

Mara seems quite a good choice even though i’d prefer Dakota Fanning in that role. Of course i’d prefer Edward Norton to Brolin and Aronofsky to Spike Lee but alas…

  • UGH

I’m shocked Spike Lee did not hire any African American actors in major roles.

  • LOL

    America loves crap.

  • irvoneil

Who cares? I couldn’t even get through the first Oldboy…and I’m sure I wasn’t alone in that.
