THOR: Chris Hemsworth says his hammer-pounding god is not just once again fighting Loki, his villainous brother from Asgard, but also secretly trying to protect him. “I think [Thor's] motivation is much more of a personal one, in the sense that it’s his brother that is stirring things up. Whereas everyone else, it’s some bad guy who they’ve gotta take down. It’s a different approach for me, or for Thor. He’s constantly having to battle the greater good and what he should do vs. … it’s his little brother there,” the actor says. “I’ve been frustrated with my brothers at times, or family, but I’m the only one who is allowed to be angry at them. There’s a bit of that.”

HAWKEYE: Like Black Widow, he’s one of the only regular humans in The Avengers, which gives him a working-class-superhero pride. “The only sort of thing I cling to is the relationship of past experiences with Scarlett’s character, with them both being human. I can cling to that,” says Jeremy Renner. But there’s no insecurity. “Quite the opposite,” the actor says. “He’s the only one who can really take down The Hulk with his tranq tip arrows. He knows his limitations. But when it comes down to it, there has to be a sense of confidence in any superhero.”

I absolutely agree. I love Black Widow, but for the male heroes, the producers of this film chose an unstoppable gamma-powered force of nature, a super-smart enginner/millionaire with a super-powerful armor, a god, and a super-fast, super strong, super-noble soldier. For the female hero, they chose…a decent fighter? Seriously? Why not Ms. Marvel? Wasp? Scarlet Witch? Monica Rambeau/Photon? Moondragon? Firebird? Silverclaw? Unless she ends up saving the day, thus exemplifying the whole David-and-Goliath/the least-you-expected-beat-the-big-bad scenario (and you know they won’t let the girl have a better showing than their precious Cap, or Iron Man), she will be useless against Loki, another god. What’s she gonna do, karate-chop him into submission? Spy him to death? The producers should have chosen a more powerful female avenger, from which there are plenty to choose.
Remember this is directed by Joss Whedon. He is all about empowerment of women. Remember Buffy the 15 year old girl slaying all the baddies in town? Have faith in Joss, he knows how to make women characters hold their own against seemingly more powerfull characters.
Loki will be all out of control with the cosmic cube thing and it will create some vortexy thing, and Loki will be all like “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO” and then Nick Fury will be like: “PUSH THE BUTTON!” and Thor will be all: “BUT HE’S MY BROTHER” and and Nick and Tony Stark will be all: “BUT YOU HAVE TO DO IT, IT’S FOR THE BEST!” and Loki will wail again: “BROTHER, DON’T DO THIS, BECAUSE WE’RE…. BROTHERS….. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO” and then Thor will turn his head away and say “I’M SORRY” and hesitate and then Black Widow will slam the button down with her hand and it will be done.

More of a time budget thing. Takes less time to use chars the audience has already met than to do back stories for 2 new chars though, “This is a talented inventor scientist and his model girlfriend. He made them some really cool suits and they’re both affected by his size altering Pym particles.” really shouldn’t take more than a few minutes.
Scarlett Johansson has an amazing healthy model figure that boasts an ample cleavage, fuller legs and a fuller backside. I just love her curves. She’s so shapely. She’s a great example to women around the country.

When you do that with movies like Robert Downey Jr. said about The Dark Knight and Inception, and when you do things like that about a man like Christopher Nolan – I’ve kept really quiet, but I’ll tell you something, he went down in my estimation when he said that – we have not resorted to that. But I’ll tell you – we’re still fighting for box office supremacy, and The Avengers has to compete with The Dark Knight Rises next year and get something, and I tell you honestly, I will love it if The Dark Knight Rises outgrosses The Avengers, I will love it if we beat them, love it!

Dark Knight Rises is coming off a Billion Dollar movie. It is Expected to beat The Avengers and, unless The Avengers makes over $1b, will be considered a disappointment if it doesn’t.
Me? I’m hoping that we get two very good flms and tat they both deserve to earn over $1b and do so. Not sure I care which does better, although MArvel Studios are doing good things and need Avengers to be a big hit more than WB,; who can and will pump unending cash into their Dc movies (although it seems only the Batman films have been much good of late) whereas Disney are doubtless waiting for any excuse to gobble up Marvel Studios and turn their movies into more little kid friendly movies.
Let’s not wish financial ruin and poor movies on 1,00s of workers and millions of fans just because you’re a little miffed with something a former junkie said eh?

The avengers will be a disappointment if it doesn’t earn over a billion dollars? Gee, your logic is screwed up there. First of all, nobody expects the Avengers to earn a billion dollars, as very few films in history ever reach that mark to begin with. Secondly, I think the only thing that fans expect from it is a decent story line, lots of action, and for it to be success at the box office. If the movie makes a profit of say around 500 to 700 million worldwide, then it will be deemed a success by any film’s standards…unless Marvel plans on making “The Avengers” one of the most expensive movies of all time.
Whereas “The Dark Knight Rises”, I think you can make a bigger argument that people will consider it more of a bust if it doesn’t generate a billion dollars in addition to strong critical and audience receptions. Granted, I think it would be unreasonable for any fan to expect the same kind of success the last movie did, but you know many people will do it anyway.
The problem with the last batman movie is that it set the bar for itself so freakishly high that if doesn’t at least match or best the last movie, then it’ll be deemed a failure in some fans’ minds, as you have to wonder how do you top a film that was deemed arguably the greatest superhero film ever made?
don’t get me wrong, I have faith in Nolan, and I trust the story will be every bit as great as the last two films, but I doubt it’s going to set record sales like last time.

The reality is that “The Avengers” will be the highest grossing superhero movie next year mainly due to a novelty. Seriously, if Stallone’s “Expendables” film can become a hit because of an all star action hero cast of the 80′s and 90′s, then you know the Avengers will generate even more success based on it’s novelty of bringing together all these superheros on screen. However, in terms of story value, I think “The Dark Knight Rises” will have the superior story, and it’ll probably be a lot more well received among both critics and audiences than the “Avengers” will be.
Only a dumbass fanboy would take the success of a movie personally. RDJ is allowed a personal opinion just like everybody else. I’ll give you an example: I think the Dark Knight is incredibly overrated and probably owes most if it’s success to the death of heath Ledger. Inception on the other hand is just really really stupid. There’s an opinion for you.
