Open Road Films and Annapurna Pictures announced Wednesday that Steven Soderbergh’s psychological thriller Side Effects is set to begin shooting in April on track for an early 2013 release. Annapurna Pictures will finance and produce the film with Open Road Films handling the U.S. distribution.

Plot details have not yet been released for Side Effects, formerly titled “Bitter Pill,” but casting announcements are expected within the coming weeks, according to a press release issued Wednesday. “We are thrilled that Steven Soderbergh is bringing his next thriller to Open Road,” Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Open Road Films, stated in the release. “We couldn’t be more excited to be working with Annapurna and this fantastic team of filmmakers.”

Soderbergh has two films slated for 2012, the espionage thriller Haywire, which opens Friday, and the male-stripper tale Magic Mike, which is planned for a summer release.

Annapurna Pictures was founded in 2010 and is involved in a number of high-profile projects, including Kathryn Bigelow’s film about the killing of Osama bin Laden and Wettest County, starring Shia LaBeouf, Jessica Chastain, and Tom Hardy.
