Glenn Close’s went undercover as a man for her Oscar-nominated turn as the title character in Albert Nobbs, but the actress tells EW she’s happy for the ladies following this morning’s Academy Awards nominations announcement. “[It's] thrilling, the company we’re in,” she says about competition against the likes of Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady) and Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn). “It’s an incredibly strong year for women. It’s just so thrilling to be in the company of these other women — and cross generational, which is great.”

Perhaps this attitude surrounding the awards is why Close is not even considering whether or not she’ll win the race, despite her close connection to Albert Nobbs. (The actress served as a producer on the project, as well as starring.) “I honestly have kept myself from buying into the winner/loser frame of mind, because I don’t see the positive side of that,” she says. “The thing that’s hairy is those couple of seconds when they’re opening up the envelope. But other than that I try not to put myself in ‘I”m a winner or I’m a loser.’”
