Philip Seymour Hoffman is in final talks to star in A Most Wanted Man, an adaptation of John le Carré’s 2008 thriller, indie outfit FilmNation Entertainment announced today. Adapted by Andrew Bovell (Edge of Darkness) for director Anton Corbijn (The American), the film follows a mysterious Russian who turns up in Hamburg, Germany, and may or may not be a terrorist. Hoffman will play the head of a German spy outfit that is tracking the Russian.

The most recent film adapted from a le Carré novel, last year’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, earned three Academy award nominations and has grossed $61 million worldwide to date.
