Contrary to Internet chatter, Robert Pattinson will not star as handsome Finnick Odair in the Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire. “I woke up this morning and saw all these things about me being cast in The Hunger Games,” Pattinson told USA Today at Cannes on Saturday. “I was kind of curious for a second. So I called my agent.” And? “My agent was like, ‘No,’” Pattinson said. “(My agent) was like no one’s going to offer you that part. I was like, thanks for the reassurance.”
In an EW poll in March after the release of The Hunger Games, 35 percent of readers said they think True Blood‘s Ryan Kwanten should land the role of Finnick.
In March 2011, while promoting his film Water for Elephants, Pattinson weighed in on the Hunger Games phenomenon. “I sort of came across it last year, and I didn’t realize it was the most enormous thing in the year,” he told EW. “It’s good! It will be a good movie.” As to whether or not he’d ever consider acting in another big franchise, Pattinson said he would. “But I’d want to have more input. The only horrible thing about being part of a franchise… well, not horrible… no, it is horrible… is that the bigger and bigger you get, it’s quite difficult to break out of stuff. When you’ve been playing the same part, you can’t suddenly start playing it differently. It takes away a little bit of the creative kind of… urge.”
