The Wachowskis' 'Cloud Atlas' has an official release date

The movie adaptation of Cloud Atlas has always sounded too unlikely to be real. Based on David Mitchell’s genre-mashing, reality-hopping novel, Cloud Atlas features six different storylines set in the past, the present, the far future, and even the far far future. The film is a collaboration between Andy and Lana Wachowski (the sibling duo behind The Matrix) and Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run).

The huge international cast features Tom Hanks, Susan Sarandon, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Jim Broadbent, Xun Zhou, the essential Hugo Weaving, and the even-more-essential Keith David. Reports indicate that the movie clocks in at over two and a half hours.

Now, this whole madcap enterprise has an official U.S. release date: EW has confirmed that Cloud Atlas will hit theaters on October 26. Let’s be honest: As far as literary adaptations go, this still feels only a bit crazier than Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby 3D Bonanza Supershow: In 3D.
