Guillermo Del Toro's 'Pacific Rim' will be converted to 3-D

Huge, hulking monsters, and huge, hulking robots destroying each other, jumping out from the screen, in 3-D. Why not?

Sure, director Guillermo Del Toro said in July that his mega sci-fi battle flick wasn’t shot in 3-D because of the scale of the creatures and robots involved, but it turns out, according to Variety, that Warner Bros. has green lit the movie being converted into 3-D as a corporate, financial decision. The film, starring Son’s of Anarchy‘s Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman, and set for release July 12, 2013, will also be released in 2-D. Calls to the film’s publicists at Warner Bros. were not immediately returned.

Fans may rejoice, though. Who doesn’t like an epic monsters-versus-robots fight that feels like it’s about to crush your face!
