Warner Bros. announced a new title for the upcoming 300 prequel today. The film will be called 300: Rise of an Empire, not be confused with other “Rise”-themed prequels like Underworld: Rise of the Lycans or Rise of the Planet of the Apes or Carlito’s Way: Rise to Power or Star Trek: EnterpRise. (Technically, Terminator 3Rise of the Machines was also a prequel. Oof, time travel.) The film features Rodrigo Santoro reprising his role in 300 as demonic Persian overlord Xerxes, and is directed by Noam Murro (Smart People.) They’re currently filming in Bulgaria, with an eye towards an August 2013 release.
