• Tom Hardy is in preliminary negotiations to scale Everest, a biopic of British mountain climber George Mallory, who strived throughout the 1920s to become the first person to reach the summit of Mt. Everest -- and was last seen in 1924 making his final approach. Doug Liman is attached to direct the film, from a screenplay by Sheldon Turner (Up in the Air) adapted from the book Paths of Glory by Jeffrey Archer. • Speaking of Dark Knight Rises stars, Anne Hathaway is circling Robopocalypse, Steven Spielberg‘s sci-fi spectacular about a near future in which humanity’s increasing reliance on robotics proves our undoing. Based on the novel by Daniel H. Wilson and adapted by Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the WoodsCloverfield), the film also reportedly stars Chris Hemsworth. Former Fox chief Tom Rothman has signed on to produce the film after officially stepping down Jan. 1. [THR, Deadline]

• Speaking of Brokeback Mountain stars, Jake Gyllenhaal is negotiating to join Hugh Jackman and Melissa Leo in Prisoners, about a blue-collar guy trying to find his daughter and best friend after they’re both kidnapped, and frustrated that the police can’t seem to crack the case. Gyllenhaal would play one of those detectives. Denis Villeneuve (Incendies) is directing from a script by Aaron Guzikowski (Contraband). [Variety]

• Speaking of…um…actors with dreamy blue eyes, Rachelle Lefevre (Twilight) has signed onto two action films. The first: White House Down, starring Channing Tatum as a secret service agent tasked with protecting the president after the White House is taken over; Lefevre will play his ex-wife. The second: Homefront, starring Jason Statham as an ex-DEA agent forced to take on a small town meth king (James Franco); Lefevre will play a school psychologist who attempts to explain to Statham’s character that maybe a town ruled by a drug lord isn’t an ideal place to move to. [THR]

• Speaking of Haywire stars only known for action flicks, Gina Carano is attached to an untitled distaff action pic being sold as a female version of The Expendables. Screenwriter Dutch Southern is currently penning a draft of the script, but no director is yet attached. [Variety]
