The publicity campaign for Man of Steel, next year’s Superman reboot, has so far been very reminiscent of producer Christopher Nolan’s other superhero franchise, with a series of teasers that haven’t shown much more of the movie than a few spare flying shots and lots of iconic American imagery. Well, as of today, that’s all changed. A trailer for the movie just hit the internet, and it’s got a little bit of everything. Shots of young Clark Kent learning to use his superpowers? Check. Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as his adoptive, all-American parents? Check. Michael Shannon as General Zod, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and even a brief shot of Christopher Meloni? Check, check, checkeroo! Watch the trailer:
The tone feels grand and mournful and, to be honest, not totally dissimilar from Superman Returns — which was actually a decent film, if you ignore the actors and the plot — but the movie looks so distinctive (dig that shot of Superman’s takeoff) that you can’t help but get excited to see this new version of the Last Son of Krypton. Best of all: Not a slow-motion shot in sight!
