Those who truly love movies tend to particularly appreciate the work of a good cinematographer, and the American Society of Cinematographers has come out with its list of the best in the field this past year.
Here’s the line-up:
Seamus McGarvey, Anna Karenina
Danny Cohen, Les Miserables
Claudio Miranda, Life of Pi
Janusz Kaminski, Lincoln
Roger Deakins, Skyfall
These could easily be the same names announced as part of the Oscar nominations tomorrow morning, although you might also see Mihai Malaimare Jr. for The Master break in to the Academy’s selections, or perhaps last year’s winner for Hugo, Robert Richardson, who is in the race this year with Django Unchained. Another possibility is Greig Fraser for Zero Dark Thirty.
The ASC Awards take place Feb. 10.
