While the glory days of the VHS format are most definitely in the past, those of the V/H/S horror anthology franchise would seem to be very much ongoing. The original V/H/S was only released to cinemas last October but the movie’s producers have already completed a sequel called S-VHS that, like the first film, is set to debut at Sundance and features tales of found footage terror from a clutch of notable independent filmmakers. This time around, the lineup boasts segments directed by Jason Eisener (Hobo With A Shotgun), Gareth Huw Evans (The Raid: Redemption) and Timo Tjahjanto (Macabre), Blair Witch Project architects Edúardo Sanchez and Gregg Hale, and Adam Wingard (the forthcoming, much-tipped You’re Next), plus a wraparound segment from You’re Next writer Simon Barrett.
Those familiar with the previous big screen work of the aforementioned filmmakers will not be surprised by the level of mayhem which features in the teaser trailer below. Everyone else should consider themselves duly warned.
The Sundance premiere of S-VHS will take place at Park City’s Library Center Theatre at 11:45 p.m. on Jan. 19.
Check back later in the week for a Q&A with S-VHS producer Brad Miska.
