Come Sunday, Jamie Foxx will have one more thing in common with fellow Oscar winners Reese Witherspoon and Sandra Bullock. MTV will honor Foxx with its “Generation Award” at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, the network announced today.
“As a comedian, Academy award-winning actor and Grammy award-winning artist, Jamie Foxx is a triple threat superstar unlike any we’ve seen in a long time,” said MTV President Stephen Friedman in a statement. “Jamie has captivated audiences for nearly two decades with a dizzying array of memorable performances, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate him at this year’s Movie Awards.”
The “Generation Award” is the night’s highest honor, given to a performer who can be “counted on to engage the MTV audience with everything” s/he does. Previous recipients include Witherspoon, Bullock, Mike Myers, Jim Carrey, Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise, and Adam Sandler.
Foxx is also up for four Movie Awards at the ceremony — “Best Male Performance,” “Best Fight,” “Best Kiss,” and “Best WTF Moment” — for his title role in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. This announcement adds onto the list of the night’s buzzy stunts, including a live Pitch Perfect reunion/mash-up to open the show as well as Will Ferrell’s receipt of the inaugural “Comedic Genius Award.”
