• Sandra Bullock passed once on starring in Will Gluck’s update of Annie, but reports surfaced Wednesday that talks may have started up again. The Oscar-winning actress would play the part of Miss Hannigan, the cruel, often drunk head of the orphanage that houses Annie (Beasts of the Southern Wild’s Quvenzhané Wallis). Carol Burnett played the role in John Huston’s 1982 version of the musical. Bullock can be seen next in The Heat (June 28) with Melissa McCarthy, and then in Alfonso Curaón’s Gravity (October 4) with George Clooney. [The Wrap]

• Tom Hanks is re-teaming with his Cloud Atlas co-director Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run) to turn the Dave Eggers novel A Hologram for the King into a film. Hanks will star in the film as Alan Clay, a downtrodden American businessman who tries to make it in Saudi Arabia. Hanks can be seen next in Paul Greengrass’s Somali pirates drama Captain Phillips, which hits theaters on October 11. [Deadline]

• Carey Mulligan may not, in fact, be taking on the lead role in the Hillary Rodham Clinton biopic Rodham. The Great Gatsby actress has reportedly passed on the James Ponsoldt project. Back to the drawing boards. [THR]

• After his dramatic turn as Marius in Les Miserables, English actor Eddie Redmayne is set to take on another challenging role – theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking. Man on Wire director James Marsh will helm the biopic, called Theory of Everything. The report says the film will focus on Hawking’s relationship with his wife, though it’s unclear which of his two marriages will provide the subject. [Deadline]

Stage and film veteran Tracey Ullman (I Could Never Be Your Woman) is in talks to join the ensemble cast of Rob Marshall’s live-action adaptation of Into the Woods, where she’d play Jack the Giant Killer’s mother. In case you’re keeping track of the ever-growing cast, it now includes Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, Chris Pine, Emily Blunt, and Jake Gyllenhaal. [THR]

• Chris Tucker, who recently appeared in Silver Linings Playbook, is attached to star in the comedy Second Honeymoon, about a couple trying to sustain their marriage by returning to the island where they eloped and said their vows. Gridiron Gang director Phil Joanou is re-writing the script and will eventually direct the film. [THR]

• The name might not mean much to you now, but young actress Sterling Jerins has a number of big projects coming up in the next few months. She’ll be playing Brad Pitt’s daughter in World War Z, and one of the young, haunted girls in James Wan’s The Conjuring. Jerins has also just joined the cast of Rob Reiner’s And So It Goes, where she’ll play the granddaughter of Michael Douglas’s character. Diane Keaton also stars in the film. [Variety]

• In Veronica Mars movie news, Daran Norris will be reprising his role as resident Neptune lawyer Cliff McCormack, Amanda Noret will be back to play Neptune High mean girl and former Dick Casablancas’ (Ryan Hansen) girlfriend Madison Sinclair, and Sam Huntington will play Luke Haldeman, who you might remember from season 1 as Neptune’s steroid-smuggling baseball player.

• Ray Liotta (Killing Them Softly), Justin Chon (Twilight), and Harry Shum Jr. (Glee) will all star in the Martin Scorsese-produced crime thriller Revenge of the Green Dragons, based on a New Yorker article about the Queens-based gang syndicate. [Variety]
