The Terminator franchise is about to be reborn, and it now has a due date: June 26, 2015.
Terminator, the first movie in a planned trilogy, is a joint effort from Paramount, Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures; Laeta Kalogridis (Avatar) and Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) are set to write the screenplay.
There’s no word yet on who will direct or star, but earlier this month, Arnold Schwarzenegger told a crowd in Australia that he would be back as the Terminator, though his involvement was not mentioned in the release-date announcement. (Also worth noting: At the time, the former California governor referred to the film as Terminator 5, while the press release was careful to refer to the reboot as a “stand-alone trilogy.”)
“I’m very happy that the studios want me to be in Terminator 5 and to star as the Terminator, which we start shooting in January,” Schwarzenegger said on June 13.
Schwarzenegger starred in the first three Terminator films, starting in 1984, while 2009′s Terminator Salvation featured a computer-generated version of the Austrian actor.
