Casting Net: Melissa McCarthy in talks for a James Bond inspired role; Plus James McAvoy as Dr. Frankenstein, more

• Melissa McCarthy can basically do whatever she wants these days, especially alongside her Bridesmaids and The Heat director Paul Feig. Her latest awesome endeavor? Potentially starring in Susan Cooper, a spy comedy about a James Bond-esque character. McCarthy, of course, would play the female Bond spinoff. According to the report, the project is being developed as a potential franchise and Feig would direct. Scheduling could be an issue, though. McCarthy has multiple projects with her production company On the Day as well as her Mike & Molly commitments. Still, McCarthy as a James Bond-type sounds delightfully promising. [The Wrap]

• James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class) is in negotiations to play Dr. Frankenstein to Daniel Radcliffe’s Igor in Fox’s Frankenstein project. Paul McGuigan (Wicker Park) is set to direct the still-untitled project with Max Landis (Chronicle) penning the script. [Deadline]

• Wes Bentley (The Hunger Games) is the latest actor to join the massive cast of Christopher Nolan’s time travel epic Interstellar. THR‘s report notes that this is the final vacant slot in the film’s cast. Since appearing in The Hunger Games with his architectural facial hair, Bentley has been cast in several projects. He’ll be appearing in Lovelace, and was recently cast in a new Ryan Murphy pilot for HBO.  [THR]

• Thomas Mann (Project X) will reportedly have a “steamy encounter” with Kristen Wiig in the Will Ferrell and Adam McKay-produced comedy Welcome to Me, about a woman with a personality disorder. [The Wrap]

Animal, the Drew Barrymore-produced horror flick about a group of friends stranded in a cabin, has set the cast which includes Eve (Barbershop), Joey Lauren Adams (Chasing Amy), Jeremy Sumpter (Friday Night Lights), Amaury Nolasco (Prison Break), and Parker Young (Suburgatory). The movie will have a limited theatrical release before making its TV debut on Chiller. [THR]

• Peter Bogdonavich has rounded out his Squirrels to the Nuts cast with Ahna O’Reilly (The Help), Rhys Ifans (The Amazing Spider-Man), Lucy Punch (Bad Teacher), and Jake Hoffman (Click). They’ll be joining Jennifer Aniston, Owen Wilson, and more in the ensemble. Tatum O’Neal, who worked with Bogdonavich on Paper Moon, has also joined the cast. [THR, The Wrap]

• Another ensemble cast, Kill the Messenger, has added Oliver Platt (Please Give), Andy Garcia (Ocean’s Eleven), and Tim Blake Nelson (Lincoln). [Deadline]
