• Joel Edgerton is by no means a newcomer to the movie scene. In the early 2000s alone he appeared in Ned Kelly, King Arthur (as Gawain) and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. But it wasn’t till his turn as the stoic MMA fighter in 2011’s Warrior that he really entered our consciousness as a new leading man to take seriously. In addition to high-profile roles in The Great Gatsby (as Tom Buchanan) and Zero Dark Thirty, Edgerton is also slated to appear in Jeff Nichols’ Midnight Service. Now, Edgerton is in talks to play Ramses in Ridley Scott’s biblical epic Exodus, opposite Christian Bale, who is on board to play Moses. Production is expected to start in September and with location shoots in England, Morocco, and Spain. Steve Zaillian, who won an Oscar for Schindler’s List, and has been nominated for his work on Moneyball and Gangs of New York (both of which he shared credits on), did a rewrite on the original script. • Sullivan Stapleton, of 300: Rise of an Empire and Cinemax’s Strike Back, will take on a similarly macho project with Kill Me Three Times, a crime thriller from Boxing Day director Kriv Stenders. Abbie Cornish (Limitless) and Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz) are also reportedly attached to the project, which is vaguely about murder and blackmail in an Australian surfing town. [Deadline]

• Illeana Douglas (Ghost World) and Nadine Velazquez (Flight) have joined the indie Sister, a drama about an aspiring actor (Veep’s Reid Scott) who unexpectedly finds himself responsible for his 11-year-old adopted sister. David Lascher, best known to a certain generation as Ted from Nickelodeon’s Hey Dude, is making his directorial debut on the project, which is currently filming in Los Angeles. [Variety]
