In the 2013 horror hit The Purge, citizens are allowed to commit any criminal act — including murder — on a designated night of the year. The film’s premise received a lot of praise, but The Purge also attracted criticism from genre fans for coming up short in the actual, well, purgey-ness department.
That looks like it’s being rectified in sequel The Purge: Anarchy, which hits cinemas June 20 and, judging by the new trailer, exchanges the geographically intimate home-invasion format of the first film for a more city-spanning vision of death and destruction.
