“You’re not fooling anybody when you say what happened 15 years ago was a natural disaster, all right?! It was not an earthquake! It wasn’t a typhoon!”
Much, much worse, actually: It was Roland Emmerich’s 1998 dud, Godzilla.
Emmerich’s Godzilla made the strategic decision to keep its prehistoric beast under wraps until the movie opened. Gareth Edwards’ reboot, which opens May 16, offered a brief glimpse of the city-stomping monster in its debut trailer — but backpedals in the most recent teaser, an audio-only clip that relies purely on the panic-stricken voice of Bryan Cranston. Clearly, his character has seen something incredible. “You have no idea what’s coming,” he warns, after zig-zagging through the emotional spectrum.
