Gwendoline Christie will be taking some of her warrior persona from Game of Thrones into the Hunger Games franchise with the news Friday that she will replace actress Lily Rabe as Commander Lyme in the final installment in the franchise: Mockingjay – Part 2.
American actress Rabe (American Horror Story) had to drop out of the lucrative series due to a previous commitment to perform Much Ado about Nothing opposite Hamish Linklater at Shakespeare in the Park this summer in New York.
Now the 6’3″ Christie, best known for her role as warrior Brienne of Tarth, will take on the role of Lyme, one of the leaders of District 13 who was a past victor in the Hunger Games, hailing originally from District 2.
Director Francis Lawrence is currently shooting the final two installments of the Jennifer Lawrence-starring franchise in Atlanta, with plans to conclude production in Paris and Berlin later this year.
Lionsgate will release Mockingjay – Part 1 on Nov. 21 with Mockingjay – Part 2 due the following year.
The first two films in the Hunger Games franchise have earned over $1.5 billion worldwide.
