Casting Net: Edgar Ramirez to star in 'Point Break'; Plus, Gerard Butler, Nicolas Cage, and more

Zero Dark Thirty star Edgar Ramirez is in talks to replace Gerard Butler in the Point Break reboot as Bodhi, originally played by Patrick Swayze in Kathryn Bigelow’s 1991 pic. “We consider Edgar one of the finest actors in the world today, and we are thrilled he will be creating a fresh new take on the iconic character of Bodhi,” Alcon principals Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson said in a statement. Luke Bracey will be playing undercover FBI agent Johnny Utah in the new take and Ericson Core is set to direct. [Variety]

After dropping out of Point Break, Gerard Butler has boarded Den of Thieves about robbers attempting a heist of L.A.’s federal reserve. [The Wrap]

• Nicolas Cage and Jack Huston (American Hustle) have boarded the crime thriller The Trust about a pair of bad cops who stumble on a mysterious safe. Music video directors Alex and Ben Brewer will co-direct. [THR]

• Catherine Keener (Enough Said), Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men), and Anton Yelchin (Star Trek Into Darkness) will co-star in The Greens Are Gone about a dysfunctional family distraught by the disappearance of their son (Yelchin). Shipka will play Keener’s bipolar daughter. Carey Elwes also stars in the Peer Padersen-directed pic. [Variety]

• Sienna Miller and Jeremy Irons will join Tom Hiddleston in the J.G. Ballard adaptation High Rise. [THR]

• John C. Reilly (Step Brothers), Toby Jones (The Hunger Games), and Stacey Martin (Nymphomaniac) will join Salma Hayek and Vincent Cassel in The Tale of Tales, based on the fairytale collection. [Variety]

• Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl) has boarded the kidnapping thriller Take Down from director Jim Gillespie. [Variety]

Two current TV stars are headed to the big screen together: Jennifer Morrison (Once Upon a Time) will join Kevin Bacon (The Following) in the Blumhouse thriller 6 Miranda Drive about a family who accidentally brings home an evil spirit after a trip to the Grand Canyon. [THR]

• Emma Thompson (Saving Mr. Banks), Daniel Bruhl (Inglourious Basterds), and Mark Rylance (The Other Boleyn Girl) will star in Alone in Berlin, based on a true story about a couple trying to survive under Nazi rule. [THR]
